BUT they do have a realization that this is a new virus, it is being linked to things like neuro decline and cardiac events, and no one really knows for sure what the risk will be a decade or two from now of having had it many times. So they are trying to prevent as many occurrences as they can.
AND they largely have the life circumstances to be able to do it - remote or very hybrid work; no one goes to school/daycare in their home; a spouse on the same page and with the same work situation. If they want to mask up, why is everyone SO bothered?
If you can't do it because you want to travel with your kids before they launch for college in 2 years or you don't want to ruin anyone's senior year harping on covid or you have kids in daycare, that's fine too.
But certain people - and certain cultures - play for decades and generations, not just for this summer and this fall.
There are also risks from other illnesses and coronaviruses but these people weren’t masking. They are only concerned with these unknown risks because they heard about it on the news. If the news started sharing about the unknown risks from strep or the flu, they’d be very concerned about those illnesses too. These people are basically sheep and follow whatever fear mongering the media shares with them. The same people still masking might be overweight, drink alcohol, lead pipes in their homes etc.
