Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| The fact that nobody respects teachers is a big problem. I don't recommend it to students, usually they understand how it is in schools currently. |
Here's a note of positivity: you can be the change you want to see! πππππ Teachers needing more support in the classroom? Why don't you reach out and see how you can help. Volunteer? Bring a box of donuts? πππ Are you ensuring that your kids are prepared to learn at school every day? πππ Do you model respectful behavior and language for your kids, so that your children know what kind of behavior is expected from them at school? πππ Do your children's instructors know that they can rely on you to understand their concerns? If not, email them and let them know! πππ Want to make sure racism is not an issue in your community? Starts at home! Do you have friends with diverse backgrounds? Do your kids? Are you modeling those kind of values for them? πππ Do you know the other parents at your bus stop? Which ones do you talk to? Which ones do you know well? Have you built a community where you feel comfortable discussing uncomfortable topics? If not... why not? πππ |
| The key to understanding this situation is to read The Marxification of Education by James Lindsay, or listen to it on audible. The confusion about the principal and the vague double language she is uses surrounding equity, change etc. are explained. After the reading the book you will be able to understand the principal, what she is trying to do, and to some extent anticipate her. You will also understand why the best teachers are leaving. |
Well, I mean, if you want to read the perspective of someone who completely rejects the idea that systemic racism exists/existed in the past, and has repercussions that are still felt today then, sure, read some James Lindsay. But it's unlikely to give you any insight to the LES principal's perspective or serve much of a purpose. |
All children of all races should be treated equally. If the Principal can't do this and is so obsessed with race, she probably shouldn't be teaching kids? |

Wow! Looks like there are 51 staffs in total, 35 staffs responded (69%) and out of those 35, 15 feel Very Negative
SO, 15 / 51 is about 30% of the staffs feel Very Negative (and it is assumed that the non-responding staff are positive) What are the numbers for other Wootton area ES?

Yes, all children of all races should be treated equally. Sounds great. Life isn't always so simple. Some kids are born into systemic poverty with roots going back to slavery. Some are immigrants with parents working 3+ minimum wage jobs to stay afloat. Some kids are born to wealthy parents, with one stay-at-home. Do you take those differences in background into account when you're treating all children of all races equally? |
So are you suggesting those kids should be treated better than others based on this? |
Sometimes it's a good thing. The counseling department left after a new principal came at ours and it was because the new principal was actually making them do work and they were a bunch of lazy people. Good riddance. |
People are suggesting that we direct limited school resources into extra reading instruction for children who are struggling meeting grade level standards instead of paying for a new enrichment chess club. People will say why not both? Because schools donβt have infinite budgets. And this is not about chess or reading specifically, itβs because wealthy parents donβt like that poor children are getting access to βmoreβ school resources than wealthy parents feel they deserve. |
| What is the latest? Is she still there? |
Differently doesnβt mean better. It means each child getting what they need to survive. Some children may need more supports. Or they may need alternatives that other kids donβt need. If I have a vegetarian child and another who is an omnivore teenage athlete, I canβt give both a chicken breast for their dinner entree and think Iβve met their needs. |
On purpose? |
| Anyone know how the new staff are doing at this school? And is the situation improving at all? Any negative impact being felt by kids? |
