Did Obama really believe he would close Guantanamo Bay? Or was he still too fresh a Senator?

Do you think that’s a gotcha question? I didn’t vote for Obama in the 2008 primary because I thought he was too inexperienced. The biggest part of the job is dealing with Congress and all the different political factions. A tiny part of the job is giving good speeches.

You did not answer the question.

It was a stupid question?

I mean, it would be so bad for the Dems if Biden had to debate an opponent over 40 years younger than him who is a way wayyyyyyy better public speaker with more intelligence. The dems would have to call in the police for elderly abuse. Vivek would absolutely obliterate Biden on stage.

No sh*t in my pants. Vivek is not going to beat Trump. Nobody on that debate stage was going to beat Trump. Just a waste of time.

Hilarious that you think a bunch of magas are going to vote for someone named Vivek (a Hindu no less).

?
Because he’s a Republican with conservative social values from a culture that isn’t known for equality.

A freedom-loving, free market-loving, capitalism-loving guy is okay with government telling girls/women what they can and can’t do with their bodies?? Okay….

I support abortion rights but at the same time I'm very cognizant that we're also talking about future human lives too. Each embryo represents a potential human. So even I see why it's such a moral dilemma for many people. You deliberately ignore this by making the argument about women's rights. And then there's also the whole moral dilemma around timing of abortion from the earliest embryos to more developed fetuses. That's why many countries have non-controversial bans on later term abortions, including most of Europe, yet the abortion rights activists in the US utterly refuse any national compromise that would be the closest to a consensus.

Back to the thread, I do like Vivek. There's something inspiring and positive about him, of all the R candidates. He's definitely the one to watch carefully. He will get votes Turnip won't and I can see him playing strong, or stronger than Turnip, in the swing states and suburbia, which can offset the wacko right who won't vote for anyone but Turnip.

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs regarding abortion but only the pro choice democrats respect a variety of beliefs. Roe was a compromise position for 50 years. The right destroyed that and the voters are not having it.

Amen!

This.

Plus now that Trump has skipped a debate, it really opens up the question about what values debates have. Not to mention that last night was more like a sporting event than a thoughtful exchange of policy positions. Debates are probably going the way of VCRs.

He scares me more than Trump because while Trump can win the GOP nomination, he is likely not going to be Biden. But Vivek - good god this one is a nutjob. Trump is horrible in every way but I gotta hand it to him, he's old school nut job. You can read him and 85% of the time he's either just a fool and idiot and the other 15% of the time he is completely ignorant and doesn't know better or maybe just is a SOB. But Vivek is on another level - he's someone who can impress most people because they tend to be foolish and respond to emotional garbage. Human beings are not known for using their head but more their hearts -this is why politics and sales work - he is nothing but a used car salesman. However, he talks a good game and that's everything to some people. Ultimately he knows nothing. What he wants to do - take out 1/2 the govt fed agencies and what he believes in - not 1/6 or 9/11, etc - he is living in a dream land. He is selling and people like to buy from who they like. Nevermind that everything he's pitching is garbage. He scares me because those who want to run from Trump and Biden now have a younger fresh face they can pin their hopes and dreams on. I'm actually scared either Biden (esp if he runs with Kamala) or Trump would win the next election (I much prefer Nikki v. Kamala and I'm not a conservative but Kamala is a complete joke) but I am more scared of Vivek winning. He's just as bad as Trump, trust me, if not worse. Trump is what you know, this one is an alien.

This person is the “nutjob”

This guy was auditioning for 2028 or to be trumps VP: or if trump gets locked up a plan b.

I think he was a total douche.
Not worse than trump, but close.

I would take any on the stage over trump or him.

Biden is terrible; but trump or mini-trump jr would be the worst. I would vote for the dead Wagner guy from yesterday over those two.

Ramaswamy is insincere and an outright liar, I am amazed at the people who are impressed by him. His snake oil sales charm is so visible.

As a Democrat I am going to be very worried if it comes down to Vivek/Biden in a debate, but certainly not because he's more intelligent, nor because he would "obliterate" or "eviscerate" anyone on stage. To "obliterate" Biden in a debate you'd have to know literally anything about policy and governance which Vivek very obviously does not.

What he will do is rapid fire his insane, psychopathic, buzzword nonsense and simplistic slogans, spout utterly ridiculous and blatant lies, and ignore all the debate rules to never letting Biden get a word in edgewise. And he'll do it with just enough veneer of sanity and intelligence that halfwits like yourself will think he's making sense. It's the exact same playbook as Trump, and we all saw that somehow half of American voters are so dumb that they didn't see anything wrong with it.

The sad thing is that you and a significant portion of the voting public think that this is in fact "winning" a debate, because you're too stupid to understand what a debate even is. It's all just "Man strong because man yell better! Me like strong man!"

Slick indeed.
