Bullis is not a very good team I watched the game against St. John’s where they got the doors blown off of them as well as the one goal win against Holy across where they needed sudden death to a team who was missing arguably there two beat players both D 1 commits. Their offense is stagnant at best they have absolutely no ride and their defense is pretty much non existent.

To suggest Riverside had an influx of recruits would not be completely accurate. I believe the school opened in 2016, so anyone who came to the school when it was not at capacity would have graduated in 2019 or 2020. If you are a rising freshman you don’t have to sit out to transfer schools. A current student transferring from one Loudoun school to another would have to sit out of sports for a year. And the highway runs both ways. Players who would have attended Riverside opted to attend private schools. So Riverside has had no advantage over other schools for the past several years. Independence is the most recent Loudoun school that has had the advantage of kids coming to the school as it fills it hallways.

The issue is Loudoun wide. There simply are not enough girls playing the sport. The boys side seems much stronger. Schools are barely able to field varsity girls lacrosse teams. And when they do often they have to pull in kids who have not played the sport. JV teams are falling off every year, which only compounds the problem of fielding varsity teams. In Loudoun the power of school programs tends to shift every several years. The next program to take a step back will be Dominion. Great program but they simply will not have the numbers to support the great run they have had over the last few years.

These are public schools. They are not privates who can easily recruit students like PVI. PVI has also impacted the sport on the public level since it’s move to Loudoun. So it’s not really a Riverside thing. They had one or two years in 2015 and 2016 where they were looking to fill the school; thus, students could transfer into the school. These students graduated by 2020. I’m sure a student or two may have gone through the normal Loudoun channels to transfer but again they would have to sit out a year if not a rising freshman. Independence opened in 2019 so they still have students in their program they could have recruited to fill their school. These students will graduate this year or next.

Loudoun has started playing Jv games at 7v7 which is actually great for that level, more touches to ball. Pvi does impact many of the more local schools like Lightridge and Champe from players that could impact the teams. The youth leagues have some great amount of talent feeding into Indy and Lightridge the next two years. Unfortunately, the further west you get it’s not as much of a pool to draw from in terms of numbers.

Loudoun girls lacrosse has a long road. Yes there are a few top notch players, but they seem to trek to the private schools. For youth lacrosse, unless things have changed since my daughter played Dulles South and Ashburn were usually near the bottom. Great Falls, Vienna, Arlington, McLean consistently rolled the girls from Loudoun. There might be a few outliers but in general the Loudoun girls are usually not competitive with their neighbors to the east. You see the same things happening at the club levels. Pride and 3d's Loudoun teams play in lower brackets at tournaments.

Agreed that Bullis is not a great team. Again, Oakton thinks they are this super power team when they are really not. They only look good because all talent around public school NOVA graduated last year. I hope they prove everyone wrong, but looks like to me that there are 4-6 teams that could be evenly matched in 6A and pending on that particular day and injuries, the win can go either way.

While Oakton's younger players on offense need to be more consistent, the defense is clicking on all cylinders and the goalie play is superb. I don't see any team scoring more than 10 on Oakton (with the possible exception of SSSA). If their entire offense starts living up to its potential, watch out. The JMU girl can put the team on her back if need be, but by playoff time, she might not need to.

SSSA is the only serious team on Oakton’s schedule. SSSA will put up well over 10
on Oakton. 15+ is a more realistic number.
