Apple river tubing killing

This is one of the best closing arguments I've ever seen - over years of CourtTV watching and years as a trial attorney myself:

Verdict in - guilty

What an awful verdict - a miscarriage of justice for sure. He’s going to spend 40-60 years - he’ll die in prison because he defended himself from a drunken mob of entitled idiots.

The fact that Miu was attacking random groups of people who came to the aid of teens yelling "HELP!" is what did him in.

He was wild and had zero discretion about who he was assaulting.

Hopefully they overturn it on appeal.

Agree. I am really shocked that they found him guilty. I’ve watched that video several times. I would have done the same thing.

Also, it’s kind of crazy that he was able to inflict so much damage so quickly but I do believe it was self defense.

Where can you see the video?

Not surprising at all. Even Fox News is putting him on blast....

The posts of Nicolae Miu, 52, a mechanical engineer from Prior Lake, Minnesota, largely consist of memes that reflect a love of guns and belief in self-defense, conservative political views, deeply held religious beliefs as well as a love for animals and boating.

I will read about his trial, conviction and sentencing with snacks.

I don't doubt you eat non stop but there will be no conviction.

Just coming here to gloat at all of you who said I was wrong that he would indeed be tried and convicted. I was right. I am glad he will rot. He CAME BACK to the scene.

Nah, I think the jury got it right. This wasn't some innocent guy who got caught in a bad situation. This was a guy looking for trouble and/or mentally disturbed.

Np I just watched the video. If I was on the jury he would have walked. I think he’ll get off on appeal. A drunk mob of bullies surrounded a man after taunting him repeatedly and started pushing him into the water in a river. The mob of guys were young and in their physical prime and this guy was old and out of shape and probably panicked. He had a right to self defense. Bad call from the jury on this one.

News reports that he initially lied about having a knife until video showed the clip in his pocket.

Lying=bad result.

Knife=notoriously harder to defend use of, even as compared to a firearm.

Duty to retreat/no duty to retreat. If he had just given up and tried to leave early in the encounter that might’ve been the end of it, regardless of duty.

Once he went down in the water surrounded by hostiles, I think he probably did fear for his life. I sure would.

Prosecution rebuttal hammered him as a liar.

Wow. That verdict is absolutely horrendous. Total BS.
