Shockingly rare doesn't mean it doesn't happen though. I have had 6 students with DS over the last 7 years. 3 had mothers who gave birth over 40, 2 were in their early thirties and 1 was from a teen pregnancy. It was/is a common cover story for serious drug issues. Demi Lovato tried to do the same thing after she punched that dancer and went to rehab, but obviously the truth has come out in the years since, as she’s left the Disney machine and continued to struggle with addiction.

I believe it was staged by Will, wife and management team. I think it was clear he was method acting or "in character" like the Williams sisters' dad. The slap was so theatrical.

I think the scandal is that if it is her kid, she was basically trying to self abort full term by how incredibly reckless she was. No one who gave a crap if that baby lived or died would have acted the way she did.

THIS. The timing with Bristol’s other pregnancy doesn’t work, and I think the other daughter was still too young even in this trashy family. That was Sarah’s baby, but the way she acted made it seem as if she didn’t care whether the baby lived or died.

Had her water break, spent several hours giving a speech, and then 20 plus hours trekking back to Alaska to give birth in some dinky hospital without a NICU (passing by other available hospitals that would be better equipped) that has no record of the birth.

Nah, she 100% killed her kid. You don’t stage an accidental drowning to look like a murder.

I just don't see it. Burke wasn't their golden child like JonBenet. Why protect your 2nd choice kid?

Because they'd already lost one kid. Not protecting Burke wouldn't bring Jonbenet back, and they would likely lose their other kid.

I'm not saying that I'd do the same thing they did, but I can understand wanting to keep your only remaining child out of the juvenile system for what may have been an accident. Maybe he would've gotten some kind of lenient sentence, but they didn't know that in the moment. I hope they got him whatever help he needed over the years.

I’ve read so much on this case and it was definitely the brother. It seems like it was an accident and their parents were utterly traumatized and made up a story so that he wouldn’t get in trouble. I think they honestly couldn’t conceive of a way of dealing with the murder of their child by their son so they went on total denial and invented a story to tell the media.

I think several experts were comfortable going on record stating jon Benet showed evidence of earlier sexual abuse trauma and that the son had chronic, known behavioral issues as well. I think the wealth and status of the parents in this family offered a veneer of innocence that suggested a functioning, normal family but after reading a lot about the case, it is fair to say that it was a chaotic and psychologically troubled family. If the known intruder theory is correct (and it may be, whoever did it likely knew the house) their circle iseemed to include a variety of troubled, shady people. I am curious about how they functioned before the tragedy, what kind of parents they were behind closed doors (the evidence suggests the mother was reactive, in a stretch of frustration with the children, etc). They looked like the quintessential successful family but they had their pathology and I am curious about what that was exactly.

What do people from AK think is the explanation for the weirdness then? Not announcing she was pregnant until 7 months (totally inconsistent with previous pregnancies), the crazy flying back to Alaska and driving past the good nearby hospital to go to the shittier local one? Like she was clearly covering something up… But what? Obviously she was more likely to have a baby with DS than her daughter and her oldest daughter got pregnant again impossibly fast in any case; it’s definitely not hers.

I tend to agree with this, but it’s SO reckless… and it easily could have killed her too. It’s just so odd.
