US has no good options in Ukraine

We live in the biggest target in the country.

You all will be as surprised as residents of Tokyo were in April of 1942 when American B-25’s dropped bombs on their city, when Russian sub-launched hypersonic (hopefully conventional ones, not nukes) missiles start dropping on various places in the DC area.

We’re not isolated here. This war, it happens, has the potential to be right in our front yards.

There's nothing we can do about that. We're not the ones threatening war. We're not going to surrender and we're not going to attack. We will defend ourselves though. The choice is entirely up to Russia. We are not the protagonist in this play. I thought Russians understood fatalism.

No one is threatening the U.S. with war.

So the demand to sacrifice Romania and Bulgaria or else didn't happen? A threat against NATO is a threat against the US (and many others).

Why did you add the "U.S." qualification? Russia is threatening war. They need to be punched in the mouth so they learn their place.

And then there's the big irony that the post about missiles hitting DC is itself a threat of war.

It’s a really pretty country and St. Petersburg is nicer than any American city.

Russian upper middle class have good taste - into chess, classical music, well read, multi lingual.

No, I have not been. I do not have some blind hate for Russia as many here do. Simply, BCS I did not grow up in the U.S. where everyone learned to hate the USSR and Russia. Americans need to stop Othering people and countries and pretend they are the "peacemaker" in the world.
The reality is that we can't afford these wars, we need to pay attention to our own social problems, instead of threatening violence to other countries that do just what the U.S does all the time.
I hate wars, and I want the U.S. to focus on socioeconomic issues at home. You can't have half of your population living in poverty and think you are going to still be the world's biggest political power. Yes, the U.S. is the biggest military power in the world, no doubt, but let's fix poverty before we end up in a civil war here.
The Trump era and all this rise of right-wing agenda is nothing but skilled manipulation of the poor that will end up in a civil war, as people living in poverty can only be "led by the right" for so long.

I do not hate Russia.

But I believe Russia should not start a war and attack a sovereign neighbor, but rather: the Russian military should stay on Russian soil.

Do you agree?

- or are you pro-war / favor Russian aggression here?

Lots of us lost our minds when the U.S. invaded Iraq. Afghanistan felt more justified because they harbored al-Qaeda, but in retrospect, we probably should've been angry about that too.

I protested the wars started by Bush.

Putin is threatening "retaliation" if his demands are not met. And that is directed at the US.

And just as a reminder, his "demands" are Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria.
