True. But Dana milbank argues well why Susan Rice wouldn’t be a good idea, calling her a human lightning rod.

I just read that. Good grief, I’m voting Biden/Whoever but that was a scorcher and I really don’t want someone who’s made enemies of political allies as VP.

Again, I’m voting non-traitor regardless, but she does not come off well here.

Biden would have a hard enough time getting a Sec State confirmation, even if we manage to flip the Senate. He and his team are not idiots, they know that. Her negatives are far too high to run and she has little to no establishment support. He needed a slate of qualified Black women to consider—the only reason she’s in the mix but she 💯 will not be the pick.

Don't need to confirm anyone nowadays. The Vacancies Act no longer applies

I'll add that even if Biden likes her and finds her competent, her nasty streak and crass language don't jibe with his brand. I thought this about Klobuchar as well.

Klobuchar is my senator and I don’t even like her there. I didn’t put much stock in the comb and being mean to interns thing - come on, we all know women get policed for all sorts of crap that people working for men wouldn’t even think to remember - but she showed her true colors on the campaign trail. I’m so glad she’s out of the running for VP.

I'm torn because she's accomplished and a highly effective legislator, and I get why she felt provoked by golden boy Pete, but her inability to rise above it was disappointing.

She has a reputation as being mean. An acquaintance that had one on one interaction with her nicknamed her "The Wicked Witch," and this person also briefed Wendy Sherman and Norm Roule (Norm also has quite the rep).

Picking Rice would be an unforced error and is just plain stupid. I don't know who is stanning her so hard, but she's a bad pick.

Someone close to the campaign indicates Kamala does not poll well with Black voters, and is viewed by a number of Dems (not just Dodd) as not having the right qualities to serve as a governing partner. She’s out.

I hope she replaces Barr. She will be perfect in that role!

I am a black person who would be okay with Harris. She's not my first pick, and I would love her as AG, think she was born for that role, at this time in our country, but if she's the VP pick I will still vote for them. This is not the time to be nitpicky.

Someone in the campaign hates Kamala’s guts. No idea who but she’s the VP. Get over it.

Agree - I also think there's a bunch of behind the scenes, self-interested posturing to position other Dems for the 2024 nomination. This sexist and silly "accusation" that Harris is ambitious defies logic. Joe Biden is 78. He's a one-termer at best. He needs a VP that will be popular and set up to successfully run in '24. That's Harris, Duckworth, possibly Demings, or Whitmer.

+1. Perhaps at State, she can focus on fractured foreign relationships.

Ha Ha. True for many but not for all unfortunately. That is why the VP is so important. The DNC made mistakes backing Clinton who then made many mistakes. Biden is not the strongest pick the party could have come up with. That is a problem and the swing states will need a strong VP to get them from purple to blue.

I don’t think polling supports any of your cuckoo claims.

NP. Cuckoo claims? That poster gets that winning will come from exciting additional voters, not additional stroking of the voters already on board.

DP.

I’m someone that doesn’t hate Kamala, but I hate the idea of her being put into a role that may scratch her ego, but it really isn’t the best fit for her personality, expertise, or talent. My criticism for every candidate has been just as objective, and is never an indication of my support for Joe. It seems the only time an assumption that a vote would be lost is during a criticism for Harris. My concern is truly in a powerful team post-Trump. If that is what he builds, the people will support it. That is the winning ticket: a strong, effective team for this unique moment in time. I also value diversity on the Supreme Court, and don’t understand why that isn’t more of a goal than presidency for one person in particular.

Is Grisham still under consideration? Still stands that the best for *VP* role need to be someone that people like! Personality matters, character matters, ability to naturally engage in impromptu moments. Seemingly small things but voters don’t have much to go on outside of a published cv.

DP, but I largely agree with the broader point PP was intimating.

You can tell Karen Bass's rise is real since the attacks have started. The scientology thing is nothing but Cuba will require more explanation. Repubs have already met to discuss going after her in FL over this.
https://www.politico.com/states/florida/story/2020/08/01/as-biden-considers-bass-trump-makes-florida-move-1304584

This could take away her "do no harm" status really leaving only Duckworth, Lujan Grisham, and maybe Whitmer holding that title. And Duckworth was already dinged for her founding father monument remarks.

I think it's less about her visiting Cuba with an activist group or even her Castro remarks than about whether her pro-engagement stance (which she presents as a human rights issue) will turn off Cuban Floridians. Since she's on a board that gives pro-democracy grants to Cubans, she might be okay but the Biden team would need to be fully prepared to address this. It could be the one that sinks her candidacy.

^^ I wonder if it couldn't be converted to an advantage if she can dialogue with them about her concern for the Cuban people and desire to address human rights issues.

Crossover voters/Purple states
Yes- Duckworth, Whitmer, Demings, Baldwin
No- Rice, Bass, Harris
I think Warren is very smart but too left for those voters on the fence.

Val Demings seems excellent: an ex-cop (and married to a cop), attractive, from a crossover state.

I don't believe her qualifications are sufficient at this point, but I agree with the rest.

The determination needs to be made as to which is most important: Black turnout or swing votes. Is the risk in depressing turnout if a non-Black running mate is chosen worth getting some purple voters? If the former, non-cop and community activist Bass is the best bet. If the latter, Duckworth, Whitmer, or Baldwin. I don't know what the numbers are there, but I'm sure Biden's campaign does.
