I know no one at Herndon who wants to “change the demographics to up test scores” as is often the claim when the Western HS comes up. As we can see once again, the idea brings out the crazies from outside the pyramid. We don’t need your insanity.

Having said that, there is no need to keep expanding schools. There are enough seats in FCPS. HHS did not need an expansion.

What the county really needs is rubber rooms for all the parents bouncing off the walls here.

The biggest scum on this forum are those who wait until their own schools are nicely renovated and expanded and then say no other schools should be expanded. They absolutely should expand Centreville - just not to 3000.

Sorry, I never vote for the expansions even our own school. Call me scum all you want. FCPS does not need more seats. It is a simple math problem unless you were educated in a district like FCPS.

Again, keep you and your crazy friends out of Herndon. And keep Herndon out of your looney conversations.

You can probably do addition and subtraction. It's apparently anything more complicated that leaves you in the dark.

Aww, it’s ok, Sweetie. Whatever pyramid your kids land in won’t deserve you.
I did the addition and subtraction.

362 Centreville Kids and 340 Chantilly kids are said to move to Westfield, per the Western option maps.

Also, depending on the options, 7 students on Ashvale Drive and Franklin View Court will move from Chantilly to Western, along with 351 kids in the Oak Hill area.

940 to 1005 Westfield students from Floris, McNair, and Coates move to Western depending on the options.

436 Oakton Students from Crossfield and Navy Island move to Western depending on the options.

And 370 to 408 South Lakes students from Fox Mill, Floris, and Crossfield move to Western depending on the option.

At Max, Western could take 2,207 students.

However, in my head, I subtracted the 38 students from Fox Mill Woods who would move in Options C and D and the 7 students on Ashvale and Franklin View Court, bringing Western down to 2,162, 20 students more than in Option C.

I feel like what I propose would make sense, if the building were outfitted to hold that many students.

This is overly simplistic. The schools that need additions deserve additions. What they need to do is stop slapping additions on every school getting renovated, regardless of the need.

If you went back and researched what they did in the 1980s when enrollments were declining overall, you’d find they were building and expanding schools at the same time as they were closing schools. They weren’t just bussing kids around like widgets.

And, in fact, that’s the philosophy behind Western. If all they cared about were using seats wherever they were located, they’d have never bought KAA since Herndon, Lewis, and Mount Vernon all have extra seats.

FCPS has seats. They just may not be the ones you deign to let your littles sit in.

FCPS has seats, but to fill them all would require extensive boundary adjustments and more split pyramids. Many would end up at schools further away than their current HS to fill the void of seats around Lewis/Mount Vernon/West Potomac. FCPS has seats in the wrong places, largely due to their outdated renovation queue being tied to expansions.

Is “outfitted” a synonym for “expanded”? They should retrofit Western to accommodate the number of kids who can fit in the existing buildings. It should not be expanded, and certainly not at the expense of Centreville.

FCPS will be making interior modifications to the facility a)to make classrooms that can hold 25 students and remodel science labs, add a proper library, and expand the cafeteria.

They are not adding on anything, but retrofitting the building for their needs.

Meaning outfitted is synonymous with retrofitted in this context Paula Dean!

PP may have also meant furnishings. I would not fault for using that term.

Not necessarily true for Fox Mill. Half are absolutely closer to South Lakes.

Not true.

DP. Close enough to half. Half is equidistant and some are closer to South Lakes.

From Fox Mill ES to SLHS: 3.6 miles
From Fox Mill ES to Western (KAA): 3.3 miles

Fox Mill school itself is located on the eastern side of the Fox Mill boundary. There are a sizable number of houses (Monterey Estates, Bradley Farm, and a small portion of Fox Mill Estates) west of Route 286, and they are very close to Western.

I would say about 2/3 are roughly equidistant and 1/3 is much closer to Western. Very few are closer to South Lakes.

Not enough distance to make a difference. A mile difference at most. On the other hand, Crossfield kids are not even close to equidistant to Oakton.

+1. That’s going to be the problem with Fox Mills argument.

Most of Fox Mills is closer. That's all anyone has said. No one is claiming Fox Mills currently has a long bus ride. There's not a "problem" in anyone's "argument."

If Crossfield doesn't end up at Western, it's because of Crossfield parents who want to stay at Oakton, not because of FM.

The Crossfield parents who want to move, should email and speak up. They'd find support.

We have been emailing up a storm. Just because we don't have an ugly website doesn't mean we aren't vocal.

Crossfield parent here - can we please keep the Navy Island at Navy and away from Crossfield/Carson?
Are you a troll?

No, why would you think that? I get that these are our neighbors, but I don't love the parent community at Navy. I sent one kid there for AAP one year and brought him right back to Crossfield the next year.

Do you have a petition to sign?

Yes, I would like to know as well.
