Disagree. Right now the Queen is the most loved of the BRF and when she passes, it will be Kate. Meghan is interesting but not the most important royal.

The most important royal is very different than the most popular royal.

It’s undeniable that the most important royal is the queen followed by the line of succession. Just like it’s equally undeniable that the most popular royal is Harry (and has been for years.)

Your last line is pure speculation and not carried out by recent polling. The one linked many times earlier this thread shows him well down the list of popularity.

I do think he was very popular for a while. But after he married Meghan and the initial period of good feelings, his popularity has dropped big time. And it's because the couple haven't been able to do what's expected of them as symbols of the British state. The post a few post up showing how they went to some glamor movie event instead of a Marine concert affiliated with one of Harry's big charities is a telling point. They're clearly not interested in the nitty gritty of dull service and duty and once people figured that out, they started losing a lot of popularity.

DP. The expectations were higher of them than Kate and William. The latter were granted time away from the public as newlyweds and as new parents. And I recall Kate spending significant time with her parents after George and Charlotte. The BRF dropped the ball on Harry's marriage, maybe because they thought they were older, more mature who knows. Also, the brotherly conflict has been brewing for a while and it has clearly gone unaddressed.

I'm not sure what the expectations were or how they were higher. Kate's received plenty of flak, both in the press and on here, for not doing a lot during her early married years and motherhood years, but I also haven't seen much to show the RF expected Meghan to do a lot more than Kate ever did. They did expect her to perform the royal duties and go on royal tours - which Kate has definitely done. And Meghan did and apparently hated it.

I think this all boils down to that the BRF likely thought Harry was moving too quickly into dating and marrying Meghan and was worried and cautious about it, both for Meghan's and Harry's sake, because if anyone knows the realities of being a royal and a royal spouse, it's the BRF, and Harry misread it as them trying to separate him from Meghan. So he saw it as "lack of support" and it snowballed from there.

I'm sure there are royals and courtiers who privately expected this to end up like this. Meghan didn't have enough time to understand what she was getting into or how to fit into the royal world and made a lot of mistakes, which she took too personally. But she also apparently doesn't really want the reality of being a royal wife, now that she's had a taste of what it entails - the dull rota of duties, always having to be second fiddle to Kate, deferring to the Queen all the time. Harry's completely in love with her so he's taking her side and he clearly has his own issues with living in the gilded cage. So it's all come out in an explosion.

Yes, she made some/plenty of mistakes and the press was fairly and unfairly brutal to her. But in time, that would have all faded. The press would still have unfairly targeted her until the next scandal, and that might be years in coming. But she would have received more and more respect for sticking it out. If she had stuck it out.

Not sure about this. If Harry and Meghan had wanted to take a long time to settle in to their marriage, that would have been understood. Meghan announced from the beginning that she wanted to hit the ground running, they took tours while pregnant and with an infant. That was respected but not necessary. And probably not a good idea.

Well now they're asking to be part-time royals as Wills and Kate were for 5 years.

People forgot that the Cambridges were basically MIA for so long and William drew a salary as a part-time helicopter pilot during that time.

So what's wrong with respecting the same for the Sussexes?

Because that's not what they're asking for. If it were, there would be a lot of understanding from the public, including here.

Meghan has left the country. That wasn't manufactured to distract from Andrew.

Yeah. The girl ran away. Literally ran away. I mean, ran away! She wouldn't even face the royal family. Hopped on the first plane back out of the UK.

Yeah, I think people are really minimizing this. She just...left. I can’t believe she didn’t even stay long enough to work out the details. Some life partner she is. I’m not really sure how Harry respects her at all. He basically has to coddle and cater to her like a preschooler. Must be lonely for him.

She wanted to get back to their baby. They may have had concerns for his safety in the UK.

I find Meghan “off” but I don’t understand what she did that was so wrong. What exactly is the criticism here?

William and Kate expresses interest in living in Wales, then later Norfolk. They followed the proper channels. They didn’t have a public meltdown and issue an ultimatum.

Because they weren't ignored, belitted in the press (William calling Harry 'fragile') and shuttled off to the side by courtiers.

Everything the Cambridges wanted was handed to them without so much as an eye blink.

- Want to set up shop in a fishing village for a year immediately? SURE
- Want a house in the countryside and a giant apartment in London? We'll get right on that!
- Want to buy your MIL a 7 million pound mansion? ABSOLUTELY (Can you imagine if they did that for Doria - people complained when she rode in a CAR for f's sake)
- Want a no-fly zone over your property? Not a problem.
- Would you like a private helicopter, live-in nannies, live-in maids, and complete protection from press scrutiny? OF COURSE.

Jesus Christ William is still going to clubs every year. He was just in one in midtown London in December. But the press is so far up his bum the only time he is photographed is when he slips up and goes to a European club. If Harry so much as stepped foot in a club like William does the headlines the next day would be 'SUSSEXES DIVORCE IMMINENT'.

^ and I think it's disgusting that people won't give them privacy to be normal human beings who sometimes have difficult family situations. No wonder Diana was hounded to death by the press - to satiate the nasty busybodies of the world.

They are courting the public by airing their dirty laundry. The "leaks" on both sides are intentional to shape public opinion and leverage during negotiations. I don't think this was planned as a diversion, but someone in the palace certainly sees the opportunity in crisis. Unfortunately for M/H, in this sibling rivalry, one of the brothers will be king and yields significantly more power. They need to make a clean break at this point.

It's a diversion and all of the nasty busybodies are eating it up.

Suckers.

Umm its the exact same thing. The Cambridges kept their property from the Queen, their HRHs, their private salary from William's job, the income from Charles' Duchy, AND started up their Royal Foundation.

They could withdraw, but they don't want to do that. They want to go sideways.

Well maybe she shouldn’t have left him in the first place. If she actually had concerns for his safety (instead of just using him as an excuse) then she is certifiably paranoid.

Why are so many Clinton Foundation grifters in Harry and Meghan's orbit? Why is some plutocrat billionaire with a sketchy past giving them a mansion to stay in? Meghan just comes across as desperate unpolished sleaze.

What's your point? Harry and Meghan could certainly buy Doria (and Thomas) a nice house, if they wanted. Some people might complain but it would be NBD. Either Doria has declined or Harry and Meghan are just jerks for not offering. Or it has happened very quietly.

And Harry and Meghan could have a house in the countryside and a giant apartment in London. It's theirs for the taking. They don't want either of them, apparently.

DP. Uh, there are rumors that her husband's grandmother had her MIL killed, and even if those aren't true, it's obvious that the palace did not care at all about Diana's death. Meanwhile, that same family is going all-in on protecting an alleged pedophile. Husband's grandmother has deep ties to state security apparatus as well. Then there are Nazi ties of some of the older generation.

I would be concerned for my and my child's safety too during this process, just based on what's public. And MM probably knows a lot worse that's not public.

I don't know about all of it, but fleeing the country and leaving Archie in Canada seems like a prudent move to me.

LMAO

My point is that the tabloids in British press ate them alive for having the smallest house and least-expensive renovation in the royal family.

If they so much as whispered about buying Doria a house with Harry's private wealth, it would be a massive scandal because the British haters would MAKE IT ONE.
