Because taxpayers should not have to pay for your weekly testing. Because no one should pay higher health insurance premiums when you get hospitalized for COVID.
Because you should not be selfish. |
four weeks away from school reopening and STILL no vaccine mandate. this is utterly unconscionable. apparently completely upending childrens and parents lives for YEARS is ok because “safety” … yet no mandated vaccine. Unbelievable. |
Because I’d prefer you to not get sick or die. |
A friend who is a teacher knows multiple teacher friends that aren't vaccinated. It is so ridiculous. These people are incredibly selfish and have no legitimate reasons for not getting vaccinated at this point- you can only use history as an excuse to "wait and see" for so long. At this stage hundreds of millions of shots have been given and all is ok. There was an article on DCist yesterday about people in Ward 7 and Ward 8 featuring people and their thoughts on the vaccine- the first woman featured wasn't getting vaccinated and was an educator. It MUST be mandated because there are too many stupid, selfish people in this world. |
I think ignorance is the problem here not selfishness. But I 100% agree with you that it should be mandatory. |
It may be ignorance. The older folks in Ward 7 and 8 have actually gotten vaccinated at fairly high rates. The younger ones don’t understand how covid spreads. |
I finally got around to fact checking this and, of course, it is being misrepresented. As near as I can tell, the source of this claim is a single figure on a bar chart showing vaccination rates of NYC public employees. One bar on the chart represents "The Department of Education". That includes all staff of that department, not just teachers. The PP seems to believe that NYC data can be extrapolated to be useful for DC. So, let's extrapolate. DC school infection rates show that teachers have less than a quarter number of infections as other school staff, suggesting a much higher vaccination rate (data available here: https://coronavirus.dc.gov/data/schools). Assuming that this trend is the same in NYC (and the PP clearly believes the trends in the two cities are the same), teachers vaccinations are likely much higher than 60%. |
+1 Signed. It's time to be done with this arguing. Teachers should all be vaccinated. |
AND STAFF |
And staff, yes. |
Including Central Office. Not because they go into the schools but because management should always be bound by the same rules. |
Yes, agreed. |
Yeah, no problems there, especially as a former union worker. |
