Mandatory vaccines for teachers/staff and eligible students

I finally got around to fact checking this and, of course, it is being misrepresented. As near as I can tell, the source of this claim is a single figure on a bar chart showing vaccination rates of NYC public employees. One bar on the chart represents "The Department of Education". That includes all staff of that department, not just teachers.

The PP seems to believe that NYC data can be extrapolated to be useful for DC. So, let's extrapolate. DC school infection rates show that teachers have less than a quarter number of infections as other school staff, suggesting a much higher vaccination rate (data available here: https://coronavirus.dc.gov/data/schools). Assuming that this trend is the same in NYC (and the PP clearly believes the trends in the two cities are the same), teachers vaccinations are likely much higher than 60%.

Thank you for clarifying this information. Scary how loose people are with facts.

we wouldn’t need to be loose with facts if WTU hadn’t blocked data collection on teacher vaccination!

People, teacher vaccination is really only a tiny piece of the "adults in schools" vaccination puzzle. It doesn't actually make me feel better that lots of teachers are vaccinated if the NYC numbers hold for staff and non-teachers.

Wow, thank you.

If we can’t force all eligible kids to be vaccinated, we can’t make teachers be vaccinated.

I’m a fully vaccinated teacher (since February) and I’ve been back in person since March.

Thank you! For some reason the people on this site believe that this WTU data will tell them everything about the school. It tells you a fraction of the people who breathe, walk and interact with and around your child. You need every single adult in the building vaccinated.

Because we got vaccinated so we don't have to keep jumping through ridiculous hoops like this. Get vaccinated.

Because you’re serving as a Petri dish for more deadly mutations

WTU could put pressure on the other staff unions and on DCPS to mandate vax for all adults in school.

Yes, we can. Public employees are the only ones we can mandate. But, I do understand your frustration and feeling singled out. All public employees including the entire Wilson Buildng should be mandated. We should also do everything we can to get HS students vaccinated too. Elementary students are unfortunately not eligible yet but luckily are not vectors of spread. That is one reason it is so imperative that all adults in those buildings are vaccinated.

WTU can’t pressure anyone. You know who can? Bowser and Ferebee

WTU could try! Instead they are being obstructive.

Pfizer should be fully approved by early Sept. What else is WTU waiting on?

This makes no sense. You know that NYC, CA, and many other governs are requiring workers to vaxx or undergo weekly testing?

Guess who pays for the weekly testing, your tax dollars.

Vaccinated teacher here who thinks mandates might eventually come when Pfizer is fully approved and the number of positive cases in DC hits 500.

This is just incorrect.

Do you know many unvaxxed people? Is the EUA actually what's stopping them? I doubt it.

I doubt case numbers will persuade people who still remain unvaxxed.
