College and University Discussion

My child isn't at a ctcl school and didn't apply to any of them. No dog in this fight, other than i know parents whose kids are attending, or have attended, ctcl colleges and valued their education tremendously.
I have no idea why the same person seems to post the same nasty comments over and over again any time anyone mentions a ctcl. What's wrong with you? Say it once to get the bile out of your system, and then go out and enjoy a summer day.! |
It’s not the same person… very unhinged to constantly claim there is only one person. |
Whoever keeps saying "it's not the same person" is the one who sounds unhinged. |
Um, OK bud. By your logic, there’s only one CTCL booster masquerading as multiple people on this thread. Now that I actually say it, that doesn’t sound too far-fetched. The lone CTCL booster is clearly living in a world of delusion. |
+1. to the poster who proudly and sanctimoniously said "all we did was drop our kids off" (and then up the snark factor with the comment that the kids got into "top" schools) - you should really stop patting yourself on the back. Your story that you think makes you look like such a great parent does the exact opposite. While my teens aren't perfect, they still respect our opinions and advice when it comes to colleges and would like to know what we think and want us along in touring process. They would be bummed if we just "dropped them off" so they could figure it all out. #parentingfail |
What does a warm top 10 mean? |
NP but I'll change the above since it's clearly a sticking point. The army of anti-CTCL people can now move on. |
DP but they were obviously referring to the usage of the term as employed by the CTCL booster. Why not ask the CTCL booster what they mean by “warmth”? |
| If it were me and I couldn’t get my kid into a top 20 LAC but wanted my kid to go to a “warm” private, I’d push a Jesuit college. Kids from those schools seem happy and get good jobs. And they give lots of merit aid. Much more practical choice than a second tier private LAC in a useless major. |
Haha. I thought they meant either a school that was borderline a top ten or was in a warm climate. |
^^^unhinged person |
| Yeah… “CTCL” simply signals second-rate LAC. Not sure why the affiliated are so eager to push the CTCL labeling when it actually seems to do them more of a disservice. I have a dear nephew who went to Bard and would find the designation a little odd. Certainly wouldn’t go around trying to advertise the CTCL label. He is very proud of Bard and it’s a great college, but he would speak of his experience at Bard specifically, not “CTCL” as a whole. |
Talk about sanctimony! You might want to look in the mirror. In any event, the essence of good parenting is fostering sufficient independence so that your child can confidently select her own college and be dropped off there without all the hand holding that you apparently did. |
| My conclusion is that those who use the CTCL label are deeply insecure and feel the need to create and propagate what they feel is a well-branded grouping on par with actual legit organizations like, say, NESCAC. I do feel for them to a certain extent, but it’s heavy handed and comes off as inauthentic. |
No one actually mentions that they went to a CTLC. Everyone says the name of the school |
