2021 VA Governors race

He said he would fire the VMPI people, so that puts him on a good footing against McAuliffe. Terry needs to call Northam and have VMPI reverse everything to take that issue off the table. So far they have put up a few sentences on their website that acceleration will be allowed along with honors classes and gone into hiding. They stopped answering questions, but are providing school boards with talking points to try and reassure them.

Same here!

Yes. Almost anybody but Amanda. Good call, VRP, on the convention vs. popular vote scenario.

Yeah, nothing like a party that’s afraid of its voters.

You're assuming those voters were card-carrying Republicans in good standing.

I think you are grossly overestimating how many people are aware of this and care (I am aware and care very much.) I am right in this demographic - upper middle class suburban mom with late elementary and middle school aged kids in public school. I am involved with the school and the community and I can count on 1 hand the number of parents I know who are even aware of what VPMI is trying to do. And when I tell them they don't seem to really care. Its shocking to me.

And here on DCUM, you’re labeled “right-wing” if you dare to care about this issue. My kids are almost through with FCPS, but I still care very much and will vote accordingly.

If the Democrats aren’t afraid of their left-wing voters, they should be.

So should northern Virginia.

GOP has a chance—a slim chance, but more than they have had in years. If MA and MD can elect a GOO governor, maybe VA can too. Or, as is more likely, the blue is just too deep at this point.

You don’t get it. Maryland and Massachusetts have veto-proof Democratic majorities in their state legislatures so they are comfortable electing Republican governors. Virginia is nowhere near that stage yet.

And yet they are running a popular vote primary like normal parties. Huh.

Not overestimating. I've had the same experience. Really it has to be made an issue by the candidate, along with raising awareness.

No way. He supports all the Republican BS about the 2020 election. Utterly untrustworthy and into conspiracy theories. I don’t want him messing with our elections and encouraging domestic terrorists. I wish there were an old school Republican left but there are none. I hope McAuliffe or McClellan win the nomination since they are moderates.

Forget for a second about the Trumpdust. Any Republican who wants to win has to tiptoe around that residue very carefully, yet I care not a whit about all of that. I like Youngkin..I align with his ideas for Virginia and he is more impressive than any other GOP candidates, and certainly way better than any Democratic ones. I met him years ago..he is a genuinely nice guy. Happy he was the frontrunner here.

Only if you push it as if it's a done deal and act all hysterical (I'm moving out of VA!).
