Kobe was the MJ of this era, only Lebron James is next to him when it comes to fame. That’s pretty huge. Regardless, it’s a human being who lost his daughter on a happy trip, along with 7 others. It’s a tragic story and it’s so sad to see people’s lives ended so shortly. Kobe was one of the nicest humblest players in the league, so to see him end that way is a shame.
I hope that the NBA does an amazing tribute to him. |
ok, he was actually known and even respected for his boundless arrogance and self-regard. he was not humble. |
+1. You do a man dishonor by remembering him as someone he was not. Kobe was a brilliant basketball player and stunningly talented for one so young. went right to the Lakers from high school and was a team unto himself. He rarely passed the ball; rarely was a team player. He was not humble at all (nor should he have been). Kobe was a brilliant talent, a true joy to watch and a great looking man. His death is a tragedy. |
I’m sure they will. And he will hopefully have all sorts of memorials, public services, etc. I disagree about your LeBron comment. Not everyone knows who LeBron James is. But EVERYONE knew who Kobe Bryant was! He transcended basketball. |
When celebrities die, the media spins things, forgets the negative, and fondly remembers everyone through rose colored glasses. Kobe wasn’t humble. That’s okay. Let’s just remember him as a great basketball player. (Do you think Kanye or Trump will be remembered as humble?) |
This could not be more OT...... BUT YES, everone knows who LeBron James is. |
So the first thing you do is get on Twitter and ask? Not even an hour after the crash? Knowing that more than likely, his wife didn't know? I mean...as a wife and mother, it would not cross my mind to post this on Twitter asking if people knew if he was on the chopper on not. |
Actually, waiting for law enforcement to confirm the identities of the deceased before publishing them has been one of the basic rules of responsible throughout modern history. TMZ and similar outlets ignore this rule. |
| ^^responsible journalism throughout history |
They still have not identified the bodies. So you are saying, they should wait until next week.
|
NP - no, that is probably not what they are saying. There was a manifest, and the police could confirm who actually got on the chopper in an hour or so AND notify their families. |
I’m talking about OFF the court. |
Not knowing who Lebron James is??? Under what cave are you living under? Because 2003 called. Lebron has been a house hold name for over a decade. |

This happens even with not famous people. An acquaintance of mine died. Everyone knew she wasn't a particularly nice person but at her funeral and on social media they praised her for and even referred to her as a great wife and mother. She was neither of those. I knew her daughter and her daughter could tell countless stories of what a not great wife and mother she was...but everyone knew that her death wasn't the time to hang out all her dirty laundry.
That is just normal. Comments after death are for the surviving family and friends - wanting to highlight that person's mistakes seems really crass and rude. What benefit is there to be gained by trying to hurt the family? Is death really the time to try and stab a screwdriver in the surviving people's backs and twist? |
This. It makes little sense to demonize people. I can see if the person was a serial killer, but in many cases, people screw up. We’re human beings. Acting like everyone should be perfect saints is unrelated and unrealistic. The demonizing of people dying culture trend needs to end. My own mother has been one of the most selfish mean people ever but when she goes, of course I’ll remember her as my dear sweet mother. |
