Lemme guess: You religiously use e-Verify to confirm the status of your employees? |
To avoid potentially outing myself, let’s just call it a type of custom manufacturing. A lot of my component materials either don’t have a high-quality option that isn’t made in China, or the high-quality made-in-America options all source their own materials from China. Materials cost have skyrocketed as a result (25-35%), customers pulled back in response, and there just wasn’t enough room to keep business going without cutting too far into labor rates to make it worthwhile. If the tariff situation is ever corrected, I may be able to relaunch, but for now, we’re closed. |
Wait, I’m a democrat and I have to admit that Dems do this all the time: when someone says “illegal immigrant,” they think the person is talking about “immigrants.” Like PP just did above. We are a country of immigrants, so this is not the issue. |

Where are they going to store all these bulk items? My wealthy Old Town neighbors and I store Costco paper towels, toilet paper, and bulk items in the trunks of our cars because our small, historic houses do not have big storage spaces. Do you think everyone has a walk in pantry or a two car garage for bulk items? |
Th pp IS talking about immigrants. Literally none of the candidates are for illegal immigrants. And when someone says "I see what illegal immigration is doing to my own community and schools" they are talking about IMMIGRANTS. Believe it or not, they just know that they came here from another country, and their kids are English learners. They lump them in with people who have come illegally. Most likely their neighbors did not come illegally. Same for the people who have no problem with family separation at the border. They think the people are here illegally. THEY ARE NOT. |
This is blatantly untrue. There are lots of candidates and people who are FOR illegal immigration. People from business owners, all the way down to ESOL teachers benefit from the influx of illegal immigration. Construction companies want the cheap labor to continue. Bethesda housewives want their cheap housekeepers. My neighbor is an ESOL teacher and she commented that she switched to ESOL because of the better hours, and she knows that she is in demand and needed in our school district. Hell, there are entire non-profits who have build (corrupt) businesses on the backs on illegal immigration - e.g. CASA de Maryland. There are more people in the US who want illegal immigration and benefit from it than who disapprove of it. Otherwise, how else does it flourish? And yes, those of us who live amongst illegal immigrants know their immigration status. It's not some nebulous idea, as it is for those of you whose neighborhoods are devoid of illegal immigrants. |
Do tell. You know this... how? Did you go door to door to conduct document checks? Do your neighbors introduce themselves at block parties, etc. by saying "Hi, I'm Jose and I'm an Illegal Immigrant BWAAAHAHAHAHA!"? Did someone take out a billboard listing them? Are there regularly scheduled ICE raids on your block? Or do you hear an accent, maybe see a skin tone different than yours, and just ASSume? |
The freedom dividend is Yang's platform to solve a whole set of problems in our society, the loss of jobs, education, child care, lack of access to bank accounts, mental health, etc. It's definitely not meant to address every problem there is, but it does create a network effect. He has 150 other policy proposals. Freedom dividend is only for US citizens so it won't be an incentive for illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is not the cause of loss of manufacturing jobs. Yang proposes to increase the guest worker program and strengthening relationship with Mexican government so they come legally and leave timely. Trump has not built a single inch of new wall. He simply created a wedge issue to get himself elected. |
I’m the PP you’re responding to. I actually don’t think this is true. People separate illegal immigrants from legal immigrants, and treat them as different categories. In fact, many legal immigrants don’t like illegal immigrants. |
Nope. It would be ridiculous to assume because we have illegal immigrants from all over the world. There is no one 'skin tone' that indicates that someone is an illegal immigrant. Yes, there are actually ICE raids in my MoCo neighborhood. Where exactly do you think illegal immigrants live? They live in our neighborhoods (unless you are wealthy and immune to that). Yes, we meet our neighbors at the bus stop, and on Halloween, and our kids go to school with their kids. The kids are pretty open about their struggles, so you know that the family is undocumented. No billboards. That sounds nuts. |
No. When someone is complaining that their school has English language learners or their neighborhood has so many illegal immigrants, THEY DON'T KNOW THAT. THEY HAVE NO IDEA. They have a problem with IMMIGRANTS, and notably ones who are non-white and don't speak english at home. Schools DO NOT ASK for immigration standing. Neighbors don't know if their neighbor is here legally. And people have zero problems with immigrants who came from english speaking countries who overstayed their visas and now are here illegally. Over 100,000 CHILDREN OF LEGAL IMMIGRANTS have been separated from their parents at the border. |
Actually, we do know. They're the families living in the crappy illegal rentals owned by slum landlords (often Asian landlords). I know because some of the families have kids that are the same age as my kids. They can't get a lease anywhere else, so they're stuck with the terrible rentals that are not even legal by the County's standards. They're also the families who will only work for cash. And, they're the families whose kids will say they 'don't know where they were born' because their parents have told them to say that. And also because in some areas, you still get to know your neighbors. Sorry that the PP lives in a neighborhood where she knows nothing about her neighbors. Sounds weird. |
Not true. I have a problem with those immigrants as well. I'm a legal immigrant, so I understand how arduous the process is. I don't care where the illegal immigrants come from. They are still here illegally and the US government has every right to do something about it. |
+1 Another (legal) immigrant here. |
