DH and I both had surgery so we cannot have more children if we separate. It seemed unfair for just one person to get surgery and let the other person have the option of possibly having children with someone else. We're still married 15 years later but it does seem like the fair option.

OP, as long as you also get your tubes tied, I think it's fair.

Not if the woman if past child bearing age, there would be no reason.

Many men don't want more children. They want to be able to retire and travel, not have some ditz trap them by claiming to get pregnant from pill failure.
