Shooting in Reston

According to the news Buckley Kuhn Fricker contacted the mom of the boy and let her know he was sneaking into the home. If you know the family of your son's girlfriend dissolved of him and your kid is a crazed swastika mowing Nazi and he has major mental health and behavior problems, wouldn't you keep an eye on things to make sure he doesn't show up at their house again? IMO there is negligence. Don't even get me started about the fact he got access to a gun.

Tje family home was on the news today. I would be ashamed to come out of the house.

Probably his parents.

Parents with kids applying should know so they can ask A LOT of questions. Plus, this may be a school where if the public school cannot manage a child they pay tuition at a private that can. If my tax dollars helped fund this boy, I want to know.

I would not suggest posting a link with info about the boy since he is a minor. It's easy enough to find the alleged name on your own and then find the parents through searches. An obit for the grandpa of alleged shooter lists them all too. Interesting to note is that grandpa of the alleged shooter fought in WW2.

Why do you have this narrative that the school is demanding silence and cowering? Most likely this is a small, specialized school without the PR resources of a Sidwell. Quite frankly, the tone of your posts are very nosey and self righteous. You deserve nothing at this point, let the police do their investigation and let the family of the deceased grieve.

I am a different poster and I have brought up the school question too. It just bothers me that there is a school somewhere that is hiding the facts for the sake of its own reputation. If it is a mainstream private, I guarantee it has sent messages to its parent body advising them not to share the school's name in connection with the event. If it turns out it is a small special needs school, I would not be bothered by this silence.

You people harping on the school name are nuts. Now you’re lobbing accusations of “hiding” the facts. How about the fact that they don’t owe you or any other random DCUM poster anything. If it’s not your school, it’s not your business.

Almost as nuts as the people carrying on about the dog.

Hate to break it to you, but teenage boys with mental health issues can't be watched 24/7. And no, the police won't help you. Read the heartbreaking story of Pete Earley and his son.

I realize this isn't this kid's situation, but most parents are not making many decisions about their 17 year old's daily actions.

Oh, really?

If my 17 year old is living under my roof, you can be damn sure he will not be out at 5:00 in the morning, at his GF's house or anywhere else, without my knowledge and consent.

Same with my teenagers but...my teens are not mentally unstable like this kid was. Who knows what these parents had tried in the past. Maybe they were in the process of looking into other options for him because they knew that they had no control over him when they were blindsided but this horrific incident.

Right now, their son is in the hospital - will he live? Will he recover enough to be competent to stand trial?

I have no idea why people think it’s weird to wonder what school they went to - it’s natural curiosity - I think if it were a mainstream private it absolutely would have leaked by now - too many families and kids who could leak it - I’m guessing an extremely small school maybe with a home schooling component- that principal must be working w the police.

My question is why the parents didn’t take away his car keys - he may be defiant etc - but how was he getting to her house? If uber where was he getting the money? I pray the girl wasn’t involved.

Yes, step 1 secure all guns. Step 2 take away car keys.

I too pray she wasn't involved. I am sure if she was, they know by now through text messages.

Did I miss something? Why are so many saying he was mentally ill? Because he committed a crime and is shite so must be mentally ill? Maybe he is just despicable and criminal.

What else would the family say?

Uh the usual spiel of “I don’t know how/why this happened. He was such a good boy. Always got along with others. Etc” All of the normal statements that family members make because they don’t want to say they’ve been ignoring a brewing problem for years.

Well based on that home these were people who had the resources to pay out of pocket for things. This isn't a poor family going broke trying to pay for mental health help where mom and dad are each working 2 jobs. Now they will use all that money to hire the best lawyers.

Of course he was mentally ill, he was white. He obviously wasn't radicalized.

Fairfax County has a kill shelter, so the dog probably doesn't have long.

It's being looked into and handled today. I've made sure of it. And Fairfax County has been revamped and my vet said that most of the animals get adopted. It's not what it used to be.

The FFX County Animal Shelter is NOT a high kill shelter. If it were, the local rescue groups would be taking dogs from there. Over 90% of the animals at the shelter get adopted. That's an excellent rate. https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/
