It boggles my mind that some on here are zeroing in on the child’s loss of his dog, over the child’s violent loss of his parents.

I love animals, but it’s proof of how emotionally stunted “dog people” are.

There is nothing anyone can do to get the child his parents back, or change what happened.
There is a possibility that his dog can be made sure to be well taken care, and available for him to be with it should it be possible in the future.

Perhaps that is why some people are talking about it.

This. My own kids love our dogs. In a horrible situation like this one I would think that it would be a great comfort to the family (and the boy in particular) to know that the dog was being cared for personally in a loving foster home.

The family has a f**ked up teenager to deal with, the traumatic death of two family members, and a traumatized adult child and 9 year old child. I suspect they may be a teensy bit overwhelmed and are not thinking of whether or not Phideaux is in a "loving foster home."

A likely scenario. Which is probably why PPs brought it up. Hoping the dog doesn't get lost in the shuffle. A lot of bad things happened, lots of bad decisions - here's one more thing we should try not to F up if we can help it.

Fairfax County has a kill shelter, so the dog probably doesn't have long.

It's being looked into and handled today. I've made sure of it. And Fairfax County has been revamped and my vet said that most of the animals get adopted. It's not what it used to be.

Why do you have this narrative that the school is demanding silence and cowering? Most likely this is a small, specialized school without the PR resources of a Sidwell. Quite frankly, the tone of your posts are very nosey and self righteous. You deserve nothing at this point, let the police do their investigation and let the family of the deceased grieve.

I am a different poster and I have brought up the school question too. It just bothers me that there is a school somewhere that is hiding the facts for the sake of its own reputation. If it is a mainstream private, I guarantee it has sent messages to its parent body advising them not to share the school's name in connection with the event. If it turns out it is a small special needs school, I would not be bothered by this silence.

My guess is that its the latter. They look like they would both be candidates for alternative school. If it was a private, my guess wold be a small school alternative type school like New School of Northern Virginia or Howard Gardner.

The New School is not an alternative school for the emotionally disturbed. The only thing that makes it "alternative" is they work on a philosophy of the intelligences, developed by Harvard, rather than kill and drill. My oldest son went there after being bullied mercilessly in public school because he was dysgraphic and the wonderful school board in Fairfax County wouldn't let him carry a laptop that we paid for, after refusing to accept the test results of the certified psychological testing center. Everyone at the New School carried a laptop and he became a stellar student and a school leader, helping other kids who came to the school after being relentlessly bullied like him. He needed no special counseling or school help - his learning disability disappeared when he was able to use the right tool - the one Fairfax County refused to allow him.

It's also a magnet school for foreign students, especially from China and Korea. I've seen students cry with gratitude at graduation, so grateful are they for the opportunities given. And yes, the school has their share of Ivy attendance, though they help the kids focus on choosing the right school for THEM, not just because the college has a name.

My private school was so racist. People went their just to get away from the brown people, and my high school Facebook feed like a small Trump rally. Hopefully, there aren't as many in private school now, but private school is not just for high achievers and rich people. Lots of problemed kids are there too.

Key point to remember for those who think the parents should not be blamed even one small amount:

According to the news Buckley Kuhn Fricker contacted the mom of the boy and let her know he was sneaking into the home. If you know the family of your son's girlfriend dissolved of him and your kid is a crazed swastika mowing Nazi and he has major mental health and behavior problems, wouldn't you keep an eye on things to make sure he doesn't show up at their house again? IMO there is negligence. Don't even get me started about the fact he got access to a gun.
