Laura Trevelyan's accent

I am a speech therapist & I cannot listen to her because of her nasal voice & accompanying sharp sound. This can be treated successfully by a good speech therapist

It is so good to read something from a Speech Professional. I seriously doubt she will receive help for his occupational disability. She is well protected by her husband who is an executive with ABC News. Meanwhile, we continue to suffer from her deformity.

My mother tongue is German and I am 79 years old. I learnt ("the Queen's") English at school in Germany and then, when I was 19, during about 4 years in England (mainly Lancashire) and Scotland (mainly Glasgow). Later, I used to work with North Americans, married a Canadian (from Alberta) and adapted my English accordingly. Throughout the years, I came across many English accents - even Irish, Indian and Australian. But I must say, I had never come across such an atrocious, unintelligible accent as the Islington(?) one spoken by Laura Trevelyan! It took me a number of months to understand about 50% of her sentences - with the help of subtitles. I tried to figure out her linguistic idiosyncrasy and found that she tends to stretch her mouth sideways with most vowels, as well as often using "w" where there should be an "r" (e.g., "Amaawiken" instead of "American"). There's no faultfinding with her personality etc.: she is friendly, good-looking and very educated. However, has nobody ever told her that she could take lessons in elocution?? Until then, please, PLEASE, replace her on BBC News "Amaahwika" with someone who has an intelligible accent - even if her husband is a "big cheese" at ABC!

After reading 19 pages of negative comments on how awful it is to listen to Laura Travelyan and noting that she is married to an ABC News Exec, I doubt anything will happen to alleviate our suffering. I do wish someone would start a Change.org Petition to BBC. Perhaps with enough support the BBC will take some action and give her a desk job in the back room.

I never thought that I would cringe when hearing an English accent . That what before I heard Laura Trevelyan speak. Please stop inflicting her on the airwaves!

Travelyan is still torturing us. Please start a change.org petition to remove her from the airways.

Her voice is NOT an accent, it is a voice defect. The same nasal whine after sniffing helium. I have had to quit watching BBC because her voice is so irritating. Come on BBC, you are better than this.

Every night I turn to BBC News America in the hope that the anchor will not be Laura Trevelyan and almost every night my hopes are thwarted and I have to switch off. Her presentation is very weak, often slightly frivolous on serious matters, and her voice is utterly unbearable. I have tried but, honestly, I can't take it any more!!!

The defective voice could only be enjoyed by family and friends. Why do we have to endure it?

I love her voice. That is why I watch.

When I hear Travelyan speak I feel like a piece of chalk scratching across a blackboard. It is quite horrid. One of a kind. She should not be on the Air.

She's been on the last few days.. I listen a few minutes then change the channel. For me it's not the accent but the NASAL voice... simply can't stand it. I feel bad for her sometimes, but I too wish she would consult a speech therapist. We should write the BBC in NY. I was glad & surprised to find this site.

Why do we have to suffer with this horrible voice while going thru the turmoil of the Impeachment Hearings ?
