It isn't her accent at all, it is her voice. Like fingernails on a blackboard. How does such an excellent newscast choose to use such a horrible voice when there are so many excellent reporters to choose from.

Fingernails on a blackboard is a good way to describe this voice. Why is she still on the air?
That streetching is almost unbearable.
I haven't watched BBC World News for several evenings because I didn't want to listen to L. Trevelyan after a stressful work day. So having missed it, this evening I turned on the BBC hoping she wouldn't be presenting. What a lovely surprise and such a relief to find Sophie Long presenting the news! Sophie is a much welcomed voice in my home even as badly as the news has been this week. PLEASE take into consideration all of our comments on this site about L. Trevelyan's voice and take her off the air. Thank you for considering the viewers first. Elizabeth
Laura's voice is so excruciating we turn off the BBC news if she is on. Every one refers to it an accent, As a Brit I don't think so, it is a nasal voice defect. It sounds as if she is inhaling Helium gas. Great shame because she does a good job..
I agree!!! Brit here too and the voice is repugnant. We switch immediately when she comes on. Fortunately she is part-time. A look at her Bio indicates her husband is head of ABC News, so obviously she has considerable pull.
With all these complaints!! Why do we still have to listen to this woman?
Laura trevelyan must have some inside person keeping on the show because I cannot stand her nasal voice. The minute I see her I turn BBC off and go to CNN or PBS. Get her to a voice coach or throw her off the show

Afraid she is still on. I like your Post and I wish there was a Petition we could sign and send to BBC America requesting a change. Her voice is beyond tolerable.
Try a Change.org Petition. It would most likely get thousands of signatures. Her voice is really gritty, sort of like scratching a blackboard.
I cannot bear to have BBC news "Amayicaa" (as pronounced by LT}) on my television. Her voice is high, nasal, ugly and we should also add that she is a very poor news anchor. I grew up with BBC News and now I want to hear it in the US. I witnessed the battle for women to be reporters, from Isabel Barnett to Katty Kay. Laura T. is an embarrassment when one looks at those women's careers and their excellence. I'm afraid she holds her present position through family money and marriage connections. (And please tell her to take her outstretched arm from the table- faux casual!)
I agree with the last Post. It is very sad that BBC America doesn't hear the voices of those who tune in. Do they realize that we tune out when Travelyan is on the Air? So many Posts here - yet nothing has happened. I like the Change.org suggestion where we can push a Petition.
Why do they continue to use her. She clearly hurts our ears !!!
The end days of the week we are usually spared. Not this week because there is lots of important news. Why is this happening. I was looking forward to Jane O'Brian or another substitute. We got the gritty voice of Travelyan. She must really have some pull.
