Is it her accent or her voice? Whatever the cause, it is raw fingernails on the board. I have to leave the room when she comes on. Cannot bear it. No more BBC America for me. Nothing wrong with her appearance or reporting technique. It's that nasal, choking. Sounds like someone is holding her nose as she blurts out the sentences. Please, give us Katty Kaye or anyone but LT. SG in NYC, NY.
I agree with the complaint about not understanding Laura Trevelyan's heavy English/ English speech. Almost cockney. I am asking if there are not millions of other announcers who speak American English and who could replace Laura? I am not going to continue donating to PBS TV as long as Laura is anchoring there the BBC World News.
I die |
We watch to see who will be presenting the news, hoping with all our hearts that it will be Katty Kay or Jane O'Brien and then when Laura begins with that accent we fasten our seatbelts, grit our teeth and try to listen. PLEASE, have mercy and have her write the news. She has a terrific news resume but her delivery is painful to hear.
Laura has an odd Embouchure. She is unable to facially articulate or make vowel sounds, she has no wall of sound, her voice drifts off without reaching the last consonant of the word. Badly needs voice lessons and a little elocution to round out that accent. I switch the channel when she is on, simply because I cannot decipher what she is saying.
I don't know what's the problem, I like her voice and fine her cute to look at.
I agree. I too faithfully watch BBC World News and hope Laura isn't reporting on any given evening. I appreciate her professional experience. Alas, her voice is high pitched and very hard for me to listen to after a very hectic noisy day at the office. Please bring back Jane or Katty. Thank you.
I find Laura Trevelyan's voice highly unpleasant----shrill and nasal. Surely a voice coach could bring it down to a level easier on American ears.
I totally agree! ? |
The accent is baffling, esp. those weird vowel sounds, but also her emphasis is often misplaced, better if she avoided emphasizing altogether rather than putting it on wrong words.
Thank you, thank you for bringing back Jane O'Brian.
I feel the same way regarding Laura's accent, not wanting to be disrespecrful, extremely superficial! Sounds like she has gobsucker in her mouth. Irratating.......Anonymous!!!!
Makes me feel ashamed to be British!! Squirming in California!! Anonymous
Laura needs to go to speech class, preferably American!! Anonymous!
I guess Laura is just not aware that her voice and accent sounds so affected! Full of snobbery. Irritating! Sorry, I feel so much empathy that she is not tuned in to peoples feelings of negativity!! Perhaps it is her deep rooted family gene pool!!
