Why aren’t males attending college?

The OP’s post is claiming there is a gender imbalance favoring girls. Other posts bemoaned programs to support girls going into male dominated fields. Engineering is still 90% male dominated.

I don't think this is true at the college level. Just look at MIT - almost 50-50.

50/50? The asian population is about 50/50 the other groups are lopsided.

MIT undergrad is 51% male overall.

A lot of excellent schools are more male than female. Just off my daughter’s list: UIUC, Penn State, Maryland, Purdue, Boulder, and UW. All have big engineering programs and reasonably high admissions rates. The highly rejective schools that want kids to be finished like a debutante, with all the right ECs and essays and perfectly curated “authentic” personalities—well, they get the debutantes they are looking for.

Girls are coddled now. In math, they are behind boys, but there are a gazillion programs trying to get girls to 50% of math programs. Similar story in many STEM fields.

Boys are behind girls in some areas, but there are no equivalent programs where they are encouraged to go into those fields.

Boys were never good at sitting down, shutting up, and following directions. It has gotten worse, where they students must use correct pronouns and follow other arbitrary rules. Title IX wiped out men's sports scholarships, other than football and basketball. Obama's "Dear Colleague" letter encouraged colleges to abandon due process to expel men. College has become hostile to men.

Boys used to do just fine in the classroom. They were head of the class, won academic awards, led clubs. And this was back when school was much harder. Teachers were far more strict. And yet boys did fine.

I have two energetic boys on sports teams. They study hard and play hard. No complaints that girls or minorities are taking their opportunities. They just work harder for fewer spots at the table. For centuries, others had to do the same thing. So much whining!

All of these "bros" admire Elon, but if they had to work half as hard as he had to, they would give up in a week.

There is a Harvard professor and mom of two boys who is a neuroscientist, and she wrote extensively about this. Boys develop at a later age than girls. The college admissions process favors things where girls are stronger. That is what you are seeing in admissions results.

I have a son and a girl and see this difference. The current trend is that in areas where girls are weak it is taken as sign of discrimination and there a tons of programs that encourage girls. Same DEI nonsense.

Take math for example, even after so many pink this and girl that programs, girls are not even remotely close to boys in math competitions.

Now, take emotional maturity, planning, and introspection. Girls are about 10 years ahead of boys in these skills. These skills are just as important as math; however, these skills are critical for college admissions and boys have a tough time due to this.

It is ok, given enough time it would just normalize.
