They seem to be a recruiting machine and a great opportunity for like minded athletes (all who want to play at the next level) to compete together against top competition right off the bat. They get in top brackets, have a coordinator that only has to focus on a few teams, many years end up better than top teams that have been together since 3rd/4th grade…, and don’t have some kind of middle school legacy to chase after… 50/50 is very normal in recruiting years.

Seems like a great opportunity when it becomes all about recruiting if your kid can make it. What am I missing?

Talk to some of the current Capital parents.

Yes, stick with legacy Next Level coaching and their track record of sending 0 girls to D1 lacrosse programs. They are the gold standard in this area for lacrosse. What are these parents smoking? A pp hit on it: parents of weaker players are freaked out that the stronger players are going to leave and go on to greener pastures (which they should).

Best bet is to head over to Hero's or M&D if possible. Capital remains a good option, especially if you live on the VA side, but the other two Maryland clubs remain superior.

Outside of maybe 2 DC girls in this class, moving to Heros Green or M&D black is absolutely not possible.

ClueLess 2029 parents:
What you are failing to appreciate and recognize is that the equal playtime formula is why Capital has such success with recruiting for their BLUE teams. It is that unqiue factor coupled with skilled players, lax IQ and excellent grades that contribute to Capital’s success in their recruiting year after year. D1 Coaches know any team in the top 20 has excellent players and a skilled goalie with many games being won or lost by a few points or less. We had several D1 coaches during visits tell my DD that they do not even pay attention to the score or RANKINGS!

Rankings are an indication of how good a team is. College coaches however are recruiting players not teams. So if you have a couple standout kids but are ranked #100, those kids can still get recruited. If the team is ranked higher (Say #5) you will see a higher volume of girls get recruited and to better lacrosse schools. Point being, there is a correlation between rankings and recruiting success.

If I’m not mistaken the rankings help seed teams for the summer tournaments and most coaches want to maximize their time and will watch the higher seeded brackets over lower seeded ones. Which is why seeding does matter and helps with getting kids exposure.

Problem with this is you have to be in the top 20. Capital's going to find themselves in the 2nd or more likely 3rd brackets. And coaches won't be there to see how it's going.

These tiers are not exact science, they don't put 1-5 in bracket A 6-10 bracket B, etc.

Its a lot of the club reputation too. Capital going to get into that B or C bracket based on reputation.

Let's check back at the end of July. The 2028s will be in the top 20, and the 2029 parents will do what's best for their kids come tryout time.

As a 2026 parent I can say that much of Capital success comes from the brand. The top coaches all knowing each other helps as well but at the end of the day college coaches go watch Capital, Heros, M&D, Eagle Stix etc. Do they watch other teams... yes.

The brand will die out fast once the talent leaves. Can already notice it happening to clubs used to be considered strong for recruiting. Yet nobody mentions them anymore.

They're in the 20's, including one in the mid 20's. This is new ground. They're not getting placed above teams 5 and 10 spots ahead of them because of previous year's teams. They'd better hope for a hot start to 2025.
