Trump winning or losing I think will all depend on who Harris picks for her VP.

That being said, current social policies and woke ideology is what has driven many to the right. It needs to be reined in a bit. Just take a look at all the attacks on JK Rowling. That is wrong IMHO and I have LGBTQ friends. I stand with JK Rowling, she has the right to her opinion and beliefs. That does not make her anti-LGBTQ.

She shouldn’t be getting death threats, but her anti-LGTBQ beliefs are what make her anti-LGBTQ.

Nope. We'll have to agree to disagree. Because saying you don't believe minors should get gender re-assignment surgery is not anti-LGBTQ. It's not anti-LGBTQ to personally not believe the different genders either - it's called freedom of religion and is a protected class to be equally protected. I respect LGBTQ and their beliefs but vice versa should also stand true.

You are speaking for JK Rowling?

WTF does religion have to do with being a bigot? Oh wait…

And therein lies the problem and the breakdown because folks like you go straight for name-calling. You can't accept the fact that someone can support LGBTQ rights but also have a difference of opinion on certain specific issues. Moderates are tired of the intolerance of their differences of opinion. Why can't you accept that we have differences of opinion on certain issues...must we all agree to only your opinions? Fine, take religion out of it....differences of opinion should be respected. Agree to disagree. Compromise.

+1.

We are the silent majority. The woke are very vocal about their beliefs online, which misleads them to assume they are the majority when they are not.

+100000000000

And honestly, I blame them for the mess our country is in now just as much as I blame the far-right extremist Christians who want to ban abortion. If common sense had prevailed and their intolerance (oh, the irony) were not an issue, we would not have Trump as the only Republican nominee this year. They are no better and just as divisive as the far-right extremist Christians.

The difference is, of course, the "woke" left are a fringe. The religious fundamentalists are core to the current MAGA/GOP and leadership.

Kinda important.

Kinda important to understand that many who were on the fence went pro-Trump because of the intolerant cancel culture of the "woke" left. And the more I hear that kind of talk, the more I'm willing to right the pendulum that went far off balance to the left. And being taxed more for just making $200K is not OK in my book either. I also don't believe in socialist universal health care as many EU countries have because I know firsthand how imperfect it is. And my stance on illegal immigration...well you know...the more I think about it and seeing the continued intolerance from the "woke" left...don't be too surprise if Trump wins and you will only have yourselves to blame.

I don’t understand how people immediately pivot to “we can’t have socialist healthcare!!” when our healthcare system is demonstrably failing really badly on so many different metrics.

Shortages of medical professionals, sky high costs in every respect, high infant and maternal mortality rates, medical debt driving people into bankruptcy, hedge funds taking over hospitals and closing them or making doctors lives miserable, on and on and on.

But socialism is the problem? Sorry pp we desperately need intervention and it’s going to take some policies inspired by “socialism” because medical capitalism is JUST. not. Working. Sorry, its not.

Not true - moderates, like myself, want Republicans to adopt a more moderate position on women's reproductive rights for example. On the flip side, we want Democrats to adopt a more moderate position on those social policies and woke ideologies. Not asking that much from Democrats, actually asking more from Republicans.

Good luck moderating the MAGAs.

Maybe in 8-12 years the Republican party will be able to right itself and come up with better candidates and slogan. Meanwhile, I'll settle for Harris and hopefully VP Mark Kelly. I just hope the Dems cool it a little with the social policies and woke ideologies.

Came across this cool site: https://onlinegrad.syracuse.edu/blog/presidential-campaign-slogans-accessible/ of all the historic presidential campaign slogans. Some are funny in today's context. My favorite is "Rejuvenated Republicanism” or “Patriotism, Protection, and Prosperity”

So, what is the current Democratic slogan?

A second term always emboldens the extreme views of either party. They will be mobilized to push the most progressive tax policy this country has ever seen in 2025, including tax increases on families like mine that make 200k/year. That alone means this Never Trumper is voting for Trump. I read the actual Democrat tax plan, not troll posts, to make my decision.

The rest is just noise to me. I’m finished.

It would be a second term for Trump. His extremes are already pretty dire. And that doesn’t concern you?

Is it religion or is it just wanting to naturally shield children from sexual awareness and sexual identity ? That opens the door to pedophilia and some people on the far left have already tried here and beyond

Uh, almost every single case of pedophilia is some pastor from the south or midwest, clearly MAGA leaning. Just because someone is gay or trans does not make them a pedophile. Literally every single case. There is a whole thread in DCUM if you want to look it up.

And don’t forget Matt Gaetz, literally a Republican office holder.

They’re not interested in the facts though.

LOL my family makes around that much and TRUMP’S tax cut (for rich people) increased our taxes. Soo… not sure where you’ve been.

What is interesting about that article? It’s talking about tax proposals that didn’t pass… the R tax bill that made it to law increased my family’s taxes at a time when we were making around the 200k mark… which pp claims would turn him off voting for a party FOREVER, lol.

I agree - we need health care reform just like we need immigration reform, but the two toddlers (Dems and Reps) need to stop it with their tantrums and work together to create bipartisan reforms that work for the majority of the US constituency. There will have to be compromise on both sides though.

I am a DP but I have needed emergency care in a country with socialized medicine and many of my relatives live in places with universal socialized medicine.

The total bill I paid for emergency room care including imaging and treatment was $250.

None of my relatives have ever sought medical care back in the us. One has traveled to Eastern Europe for elective dental procedures.

It’s not the U.S. and a hellscape. And with the internet and young people able to watch TikTok from European peers about their healthcare, no one falls for that trope.

Pp you are responding to- I absolutely have relatives abroad, some of them can’t even visit us because they are worried about having a medical emergency or they can’t afford to get their needed prescription in the US.

The US is diverse and this isn’t an effective talking point anymore.

Pros and Cons. Not all countries are alike either. When my FIL was alive and he had to have specialized care he always paid for the private health care clinics not covered by "free" health care because (a) care was immediate and (b) care was by better doctors who go to work for the private clinics to make more money.

Compromise.

Agree. And this is what has changed. Democrats were civil, intelligent, and nuanced. That is no longer.

Trump winning or losing I think will all depend on who Harris picks for her VP.

+1.

We are the silent majority. The woke are very vocal about their beliefs online, which misleads them to assume they are the majority when they are not.

Well said.

True moderates are having to vote dem or abstain because the far right is off the rails. I’ve voted for candidates from both parties but am blue now because of MAGA.

If a moderate Republican with a diverse staff and an ability to maintain decorum were to step up, I think things could swing back toward the center. But MAGA is literally stoking fires in our country and the sad honest truth is most of the people supporting this are not intelligent enough to realize they are in a cult that is making a mockery out of white Christians.

Go search social media to see what people are getting out of Truth Social. It’s some seriously crazy sad stuff. Even if you dislike the far left, you cannot compare it to the psychotic break of the far right.

LOL my family makes around that much and TRUMP’S tax cut (for rich people) increased our taxes. Soo… not sure where you’ve been.

Haven't read it all but this article is interesting: https://www.finance.senate.gov/ranking-members-news/jct-democrats-proposals-increase-taxes-on-millions-of-americans-#:~:text=%E2%80%9CWhile%20Republicans%27%20pro%2Dgrowth,Americans%20to%20fund%20their%20partisan

What is interesting about that article? It’s talking about tax proposals that didn’t pass… the R tax bill that made it to law increased my family’s taxes at a time when we were making around the 200k mark… which pp claims would turn him off voting for a party FOREVER, lol.

Trump increased our taxes too.

Do you have family/friends overseas? Have you had to go to a hospital overseas? If not, then you are not qualified to speak.

Pros and Cons. Not all countries are alike either. When my FIL was alive and he had to have specialized care he always paid for the private health care clinics not covered by "free" health care because (a) care was immediate and (b) care was by better doctors who go to work for the private clinics to make more money.

Ok, but… the US is no longer competitive. Our life expectancy is actually decreasing while other countries are rising. We have to recognize the L and deal with it.
