SYC to GA

So what’s the verdict? The top 2012G’s show up tonight? Will they be the team to beat in the whole state? ECNL girls jumping ship?

You guys don't understand and make it all about GA vs ECNL. 2012 SYC GA will be good, but what is the point?? They will just smash teams. If you are a parent, you want your kids to play against tough competition, your kids aren't going to get better. Also, ECNL just statistically gets more college scouts at their events. I couldn't care less about ECNL or GA, these are just facts

Why do you care so much about this? 2012 SYC is a fun group of talented and competitive girls, and their coach will be a fun guy with an A license. Yes, they may very well go undefeated. Which part of this sounds bad to you? Five or six years from now, they may be playing in the wrong league. Really???

Huh? Nobody is saying that 2012s are bad, i'm sure they are a great group. We are just saying if we want whats best for the team they have to be challenged...GA level competition may be too low for them

On behalf of the entire DCUM community, thank you for coming to this board in the middle of the night to protect other people’s 12 year old kids from being under challenged by GA. Your plaque is in the mail.

Are you sure there is no selfish reason related to your DD’s ECNL team that you are so interested in this?

While it may not reap immediate dividends in competitiveness vs MA ECNL, SYC getting GA as opposed to second fiddle to McLean in ECNL seems like an even better long term move in light of today’s announcement.

I just drive by the fields SYC is running tryouts.

There's a huge line of soccer moms with kids in tow. Looks like they're surrounding SYC coaches asking if there's a way can do "privates". I don't know if they ment personally or having coaches train their kid. Probably doesn't matter the end goal is to get their daughter on the team. I think I also saw a couple of dads carrying golf clubs and offering to take SYC coaches on a round of golf at their county club this summer. I think I even saw a couple trying to do package deals with their daughters holding out fans of $100 dollar bills.

So weird I wonder what changed?

True. No matter what you think about GA vs ECNL

Last night was a joke. That team was already picked. They were just seeing what players were out there that they may have missed to round out the roster.

That's how it is most of the time for 1st teams.

What ever. I’m sure those were the players they knew and anyone else able to make it would have to be just as strong if not stronger. It was their measuring stick. If the kid was not at the level of the current 2012 team why would they bring them on to the top field. Everyone got a look. Maybe your player was not as strong others and that is fine. They are 2012s, players on that team will not be top players in a couple of years and vice versa. There will be other opportunities for everyone. It was only the first ID session and maybe your child will get an opportunity next time.

How was it a joke? The team has 9+ solid returning players, so of course the team is largely picked. The coach just needs to identify the last few. If a kid doesn't stand out on a lower field, unlikely they will on the top field either.

Have to say that game on that top field was something. Intense, creative, and (mostly) friendly.

I hate that. Tryouts at TSJ for futsal was like that. The girls on the 1 team already were wearing their futsal uniforms and were segregated away. They hardly looked at the new kids coming out and just formed 2nd and 3rd teams out of the new players at tryouts. Not exactly a true tryout for a competitive team.

I wasn’t at the tryouts but is kind of refreshing that SYC is sticking with their current top team. It seems like many other clubs would ditch players for the shiny new thing.

Maybe because no shiny new things came out to tryouts? I’m sure if enough capable girls did come out, some current players would have been replaced.

Can you also imagine the promises that were made to a few of the better players to get them to stay?
