Why do people back into parking spaces?

I’ve noticed most people who back into spaces are trumpers. If you don’t want strangers thinking you’re a trump supporter, don’t back into parking spaces!

So now even parking has become political?

I only back in if it's clear no-one is waiting, but it does make for better visibility when pulling out.

Blame the trumpers. They made everything political.

Last night at a stadium event we had to sit and watch while the idiots in their huge trucks backed in one by one. I finally asked the parking guy if we had to sit there and he indicated he was asking them to NOT back in but they refused.

He did let us just park in a space next to us rather than wait to fill in each space. Upon which another moron backed in next to us.

Only if you’re bordering on too stupid to drive. The rest of us can back out of a space just fine. Only terrible drivers back into spaces. It’s a fear thing. They’re so afraid they’ll hit something backing out of the space they can only park there if they can pull out. I sometimes think about keying cars I see backed into spaces. But they’re usually crap cars to begin with, so it’s not like the driver would notice a new scratch anyway.

Backing in to parking spaces is for people who can’t drive 🤷‍♀️

Because they are self absorbed a holes who have no qualms about making someone sit and wait five minutes for them to do their elaborate parking manuever. They love the feeling of zipping forward out of a parking space...inconveniencing others is icing on the cake.

I can back into a spot faster and more accurately than you can forward in, but I'd be happy to do it slower just to piss you off

In Japan it is expected due to safety/visibility reasons. Rare to see front end parking.

We get a lot of foreigners, type A personalities, car guys who care about their vehicles.

Right. If "fine" means a 87 point turn since you have no idea where the front of the car is . . back up. go forward 2 inches, back up, go forward 2 inches. 5 minutes later you're still trying to back out.

In many other countries, it is the norm and required in parking lots. If you need to escape somewhere quickly, being backed in is the best.

What?

Sounds like you're driving a car you can't handle.

This is the craziest post I've ever seen from someone who "backs in" and it's telling that they can't drive for shit.

I don’t understand this “it’s safer” argument when I am going to mess you up if you make me wait while you do it. How is that safer? I mean, you will be concussed and bruised when I finish with you. Bleeding maybe, too.

Everyone I see backing up are not looking over their shoulder. Same thing when people back out of a space. They are not looking over their shoulder. They are relying on that camera.
