Georgetown Prep decisions posted (huge wow factors!)

You’re kidding, right?

They are both Jesuit schools in the same Metro area. They share a religious order, have scads of alumni who have attended both schools and in many cases faculty and staff have circulated through both schools. Prep used to be part of GU.

The GU admins, including the Admissions people, are part of the DC area Catholic community.

So I’d say there was a significant relationship.

For decades, all grads of Gonzaga (also Jesuit) were automatically granted admission to GU.

No. I should’ve worded my post differently. Someone posted on the previous page congratulating GP for sending 9 kids to GU.

Based on the relationship between the institutions, I would’ve assuming that a significantly higher % of the class than that would be going to GU & that there’d be some kind of automatic admissions agreement.

What relationship? Are they affiliated somehow?

You need to let it go. This is not any better than other privates and a lot of publics from wealthy neighborhoods.

But for those who send their sons to Prep, college admissions is far from the most important reason. They feel they get much more than that. And they are perfectly fine with acceptance to a good Catholic college.

The School is academically rigorous. It also offers a multitude of athletic/artistic/musical/and other activities both league and intramural based. The school continues to truly incorporate Catholic and family values into its curriculum and it's been around hundreds of years (set 1700 ish?). It. is this mix and background that lead to the impressive college matriculations but also leads to happier students who become happier adults. Faith is important to Prep families and that means everyone has a similar value system.

I can absolutely positively with 100 percent certainty tell you that not everyone in that school has a similar value system.

Enough with the broad generalizations of Prep or any other school. Believe it or not, there is diversity among the families and students at Prep and not everyone is a fan of Kavanaugh, planning to attend ND or BC, or even Catholic (gasp!). Some of us come from two-parent working families (double gasp) and struggle and sacrifice to make tuition. The draw for many is the rigorous education. Period.

Finally, to the person who keeps posting the college results: Please, enough. You are embarrassing yourself and others affiliated with the school.

I don't see many going to Catholic U. Maybe one? Also, it is actually the school that is posting the matriculations.

I think it is unfair to act like sports playing a part in admissions is somehow unfair. It takes a great deal of time and effort to be a top athlete. It seems like DCUMs are very comfortable with let's say a top violinist getting an edge vs a top basketball player. (both of those randomly picked)

Looks like Prep was. Not sure about Visi.
From University of Pennsylvania:

"...By 1910 Georgetown Prep was fully recognizable as a separate institution, but it was not until the 1920’s that the preparatory was moved to where it exists now in Montgomery County and eventually, by 1927, it was fully separated from Georgetown University with its own Jesuit community in charge..."

I can’t believe someone had to ask Google if Prep was once part of GU.

More importantly, Prep, Gonzaga and GU are all owned and controlled by the Society of Jesus. It’s a very small club. All it takes is a phone call from one friend to another and just about anything can be accomplished.

"...Society of Jesus, Latin: Societas Iesu Ihs-logo.svg Christogram Abbreviation SJ
Nickname Jesuits
Formation 27 September 1540; 482 years ago[1]

The Society of Jesus (Latin: Societas Iesu; abbreviation: SJ), commonly known as the Jesuits (/ˈdʒɛʒu.ɪts, ˈdʒɛz(j)u, ˈdʒɛs-/;[3] Latin: Iesuitæ),[4], is a religious order of clerics regular of pontifical right for men in the Catholic Church which is headquartered in Rome. It was founded in 1540 by Ignatius of Loyola and six companions, with the approval of Pope Paul III. The society is engaged in evangelization and apostolic ministry in 112 nations. Jesuits work in education, research, and cultural pursuits. Jesuits also conduct retreats, minister in hospitals and parishes, sponsor direct social and humanitarian ministries, and promote ecumenical dialogue..." wiki link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesuits

The Society of Jesus is consecrated under the patronage of Madonna della Strada, a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and it is led by a Superior General.[5][6] The headquarters of the society, its General Curia, is in Rome.[7] The historic curia of Ignatius is now part of the Collegio del Gesù attached to the Church of the Gesù, the Jesuit mother church.

Members of the Society of Jesus are expected to accept orders to go anywhere in the world, where they might be required to live in extreme conditions. This was so because Ignatius, its leading founder, was a nobleman who had a military background. Accordingly, the opening lines of the founding document declared that the society was founded for "whoever desires to serve as a soldier of God,[a] to strive especially for the defense and propagation of the faith, and for the progress of souls in Christian life and doctrine".[9] Jesuits are thus sometimes referred to colloquially as "God's soldiers",[10] "God's marines",[11] or "the Company".[12] The society participated in the Counter-Reformation and, later, in the implementation of the Second Vatican Council.

Jesuit missionaries established missions around the world from the 16th to the 18th century and had both successes and failures in Christianizing the native peoples. Beginning in 1759, the Catholic Church expelled Jesuits from most countries in Europe and from European colonies. In 1814, the Church lifted the suppression.

What I the society of Jesus?

Google it!

And if you really have to (which I doubt), you shouldn’t worry about anything related to Georgetown Prep. You are obviously not in their target market.

Don’t feel bad. As a Catholic I know absolutely nothing about the structure of the Jewish, Muslim or Protestant religions.

I know there’s an Episcopal Church, but if and how it’s connected to the Church of England is a mystery to me.

Maybe you people can help me.

I’m interested in a local Jewish School. What’s this Reformed” business they are talking about? And what does a rabbi do anyway?

(What’s the Society of Jesus? Ha!)

Not all of us are townies. You’re not that important, sorry.

No mention of the Jesuit’s role in the Inquisition above.

But that’s all water under the bridge these days. They pretty much stay to running institutions of learning these days in the US.

It’s a bunch of academics in priestly garb, who also like raising money.

It is unfair.

Club/travel sports are extremely expensive to take part in & require significant parent involvement. A kid may be a talented young athlete (including a high school basketball player), but won’t be recruited unless they happen to have parents with the time and money to put them in club sports. Money isn’t sufficient to get recruited, but it is definitely necessary.

Go look at some rosters of sports in the Ivy/NESCAC/UAA/Centennial/Patriotic League conferences. They’re filled with UMC white kids who went to private school & public schools in very wealthy areas, especially if we’re talking about women’s sports.

It's a sign of insecurity.

associated with knowing you blew $200,000 for nothing for average college outcomes in line with area publics.

you’re just poor. most families dont go to private for college outcomes, and would spend 500k in a heart beat for the education they receive. sorry you didn’t make it to the big leagues

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God

You know nothing about me, but I do know that your heart is dark and you’re soulless. Thanks for showing everyone the true majority Georgetown Prep mindset and value system.

You’re certainly not living the 4th .

You’d think there’d be some kind of automatic admissions agreement in place.
