That’s not remotely reflective of actual 1st Amendment jurisprudence. Moreover what I don’t understand is how you can’t see that a government ban on “misinformation” is going to be used against causes you support just as much as those you oppose. |
They’re target foreign misinformation. If it comes from Russia or China, it’s not protected. |
NP and I will add another example of censoring misinformation that.....wasn't. Women were claiming that the vaccine was messing with their periods and were censored on this platform, on Facebook etc as medical disinformation. Well, guess what? Turns out to be true and it took a lot longer to establish it was happening because women were not allowed to discuss this "disinformation" because no one was allowed to question the vaccine. |
Gee, I wonder who was the President "in the run up of the 2020 election"...? |
Trump was in office when this happened, per the Tweet: Oops. |
Because I work in cybersecurity and part of my job duties during the 2020 election and pandemic I had daily briefings on foreign misinformation, only to come home often and find former high school classmates retweeting/reposting the same foreign misinformation. I also had a front seat for J6. Our country has huge problems and misinformation is contributing. I’m shocked you would support foreign interference in our information landscape. Clearly, you bought in to the lies and would like to double down. |
Excellent point. |
Yes. He was in office. And, so were a lot of career officials at DHS who took it upon themselves to do the censoring. They even censored Trump himself. And, they were censoring true information and opinions. This evidently happened without the knowledge of Trump. |
So then how are you going to "vote these criminals out of office"? That doesn't make any sense. |
ha ha |
Are you a fan of disinformation? |
that’s … not true at all. they can go after foreign spies but the actual ideas are protected. |
I proudly and without apology support 1st Amendment principals as absolutely crucial to our democracy. Smearing and censoring speech you don’t like by claiming it is “foreign misinformation” has a long and sordid history. The government has plenty of tools to go after foreign adversaries but at the moment they want to engage in viewpoint-based enforcement of what can be said in the US, they need to follow the Constitution. You have zero right to control the “information landscape.” |
The Tweets are literally created by fake accounts controlled by foreign governments. Those accounts are not protected by the 1st Amendment. |
Totally false and mistaken point. I can spend all day writing in support of offical Chinese and Russian viewpoints and the Constitution protects me. |
