Last year, the School raised tuition by an aggregate of 3.0%; Tuition rates for the 2022-23 academic year are as follows:

Grades PK-2: $47,200

Grades 3-4: $49,040

Grades 5-8: $51,240

Grades 9-12: $51,650

This is utterly ridiculous.

And the rates aren't the same across all grade levels. The increase for MS is 7.5%. Unconscionable.

MS students need just as much extracurricular activities and more enhanced educational classes like chemistry labs and intensive courses in Mandarin from native speakers. Charging the same as the US makes sense.

Need?

+3 Try to schedule an appointment to check the Naviance Data and finalized the RD list prior to the winter break after knowing the ED result, but we were told her schedule was fully booked. COO was closed except for checking the emails.

What’s their excuse for not providing access to Naviance?

Many private schools don't because the small population makes it difficult to keep the data anonymous.

Which schools? And that should be a manageable issue regardless. Show combined data aggregated over the most recent 2 years and you double the relevant population. Voila.

The provided scattergrams at SFS cover an aggregate of 3 years. Even with that, there might only be a handful of dots on a graph. Sure a place like Michigan might have something meaningful, but for the most part, individual dots can be easily recognizable if you are familiar with previous classes or know what to look for.

The scattergrams actually cover the past 4 years. I have never heard the school say that alumni student privacy was the reason not to make scattergrams available to families on their own. But with a 4 year cohort there really is no way that particular students can be identified anyway, if you even knew who those students were.

More years of data are not necessarily helpful at this point. The landscape has shifted significantly in four years.

NP, and SFS parent. I’m pretty pissed about the tuition increase. But I don’t care about the college data reports. I don’t see any need for the school to publicize the college data for others to poke at; I am already committed to the school and my kids will learn what they learn, so I don’t really care how many other students were admitted to Yale three years ago.

51K? Wow. I am so grateful that I only have to pay 7K at SFS for my DC. The rest is FA.

Could not disagree more with this statement.

My STA student had incredible teachers and experiences in grades 4-6. Only STA parents know what I'm talking about. The lower school experience at STA is special.

51k doesn’t faze me…I’m paying 12k and financial aid helps with the rest. They can go up to $60k for all I care.

Gross. I’m sure this warms the heart of all the parents contributing to the annual funds so that you can benefit from FA.

Troll post.

I wonder if higher tuition will translate to more FA given due to families becoming eligible for FA from the increase in tuition and their HHI ratio. If that is the case then PP may get decreased FA due to more families vying for the same pool of FA money.
I would be happy if I’m on FA and there are now more mouths to feed from the same pot…

Or it will translate into more families with more money when those kids can no longer afford it. Is there really a large group of people who can afford 50k and are happy to pay that, but 51k will break the bank and force them to consider other alternatives? I personally think one of the big 3 could go to 75k and still have enough students to fill out its classes

It warms most of our hearts. That is the point of FA. Seriously, what planet do you live on perennially aggrieved moms? You keep getting told like you’re toddlers, but unlike toddlers you just won’t learn

Good on you; I’m glad we are able to have the families who should be here despite of their financial means

What do people think FA is for? Why so surprised it subsidizes tuition where needed? I thought that was what it was x cool by me

Think most privates are in this range, a few k less in my kids non top 3 K-8 school. Low 40's (when you include lunch and activity fees). It is what it is!
