I wish I could even hate watch it, or enjoy as so-bad-it’s good, but Cynthia Nixon’s line readings are so, so artificial and bad. I’ve always liked her but she’s just awful. I think Christine Baranski sounds ridiculous too. They sound like bad dinner theater.
I guess it’s the writing and direction because they are decent actors. I try to watch and can’t stand it for more than a few minutes. Can’t believe the same person wrote Downtown Abbey. |

Agree. poorly cast. And accents are all wrong for that period |
Peggy is the black journalist. |
With over twenty Tony awards among the cast, interestingly, some real heavy weights mixed in with some real lightweights (ie Streep's daughter) in my opinion |
Unfortunately, despite wanting to have something to look forward to every Sunday night in that prime hbo/ max time slot, I fall asleep nearly every week, about 15 minutes in. My husband stays up for all if it, however. Go figure. |
Here's an article about the casting of so many Broadway actors: https://playbill.com/article/how-the-gilded-age-got-so-many-broadway-stars-to-join-its-cast |
Anyone see the most recent episode? Peggy Scott’s Disneyesque gown at the Brooklyn Bridge party? WTAF? |
I can't deal with how ugly Gladys is. |
YES!! What were the costume designers thinking? She looked utterly ridiculous. |
I can’t figure out why Bertha’s son (don’t know his name) and Marion didn’t get together a long time ago. Seems like the obvious pairing. |
I like The Gilded Age  |
They’ve been setting it up for a long time. I guess it’s supposed to be a big plot twist. |
It’s supposed to be a slow burn, but the two have no chemistry and Louisa Jacobsen is such a bad actress all around I don’t think she could pull off on-screen chemistry with anyone. |
This is the funniest summary of season 2 I’ve seen: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8Hh6Xo1/ |
