Or Supreme Court judges who just had to hold on to that position until the "right" person was in office. |
Roe is dead and women will die and maybe just maybe if enough white working class/middle class women die it will be again legal. Terrible to say, but the best chance of abortion staying legal would be wealthy Republican women dying - like the facts of the Women in Ireland above. Getting too sick to flee to a jurisdiction where they could get an abortion. It feels terrible, but that is the truth.
Only when the lack of abortion access kills sufficient numbers of white middle class/upper class women will things change. And part of me hopes it will be the daughters and granddaughters of the people in power who vote for these laws and/or uphold them in court. If they had to be only ones to pay the price of our theocracy in waiting, they would change their tune. And can someone please start outing Republican families who have had abortions abs at how many weeks - including mistresses. Course the public has a right to know about these criminals. Let them please reap some of what they sow. |
By the time people with means and power suffer any consequences for their hypocrisy it will be far too late. We need to pack the court. |
x10000000 It’s horrible, but it’s the truth. |
My very catholic, ultra right wing mother in law forced her daughter to have a late abortion and forever hated her daughter for it. |
Even Aunt Lydia got wise in the second book. We need to vote as one: a group that understands that our rights are under attack. The GOP zombie only exists because women still vote for them, for the slimmest of reasons. |
It was just a book. Real life Lydia’s don’t change, there is no happy ending. We need allies, women and men. |
+1 Here’s another prominent Bernie supporter who voted for Jill Stein. |
I swear she is one of the people who made me so despise Bernie and his supporters. And I should LOVE Bernie! I really am exactly who should love him. I've come to like him a lot more since people like Briana Joy Joy aren't in the public eye anymore telling us why we're awful people for wanting normie electable non-socialists to run for office. Ya know, for things like protecting the Sup Ct. |
People with money will travel to other states for an abortion. GOP leadership will only support change if one-issue pro-life voters start voting dem or stop voting altogether. |
No, she's right though. Of course women with money can go travel to get abortions and will. But what happened in Ireland was a pretty white woman who was married and wanted her baby had complications and the hospital couldn't help her. PR nightmare, law changed. That is what will happen at some point. Give it a few years...some white married named Maddie will be in a red state excited about baby #3 and something will go wrong....BOOM. |
Oh sorry - I just realized Savita wasn't white. But she was an attractive and educated woman who wasn't seeking an abortion, but experiencing a miscarriage at 17 weeks and was denied help. |
Characterizing women who are anti-abortion as "Aunt Lydias" is not exactly going to win hearts and minds. My mother is anti-abortion and her beliefs are sincere. A lot of it is ignorance about what it actually means in practice to make abortion illegal. |
With due respect to your mother, participating in the reproductive oppression of other women is very correctly characterized as Aunt Lydia. If that upsets her she needs to consider whether the shoe might fit, not wring her hands about how her feelings are hurt. |
They do change but only when their daughter tells them their desperately wished for grandson has genetic abnormalities inconsistent with life. Ask me how I know |
