Modi isn’t driving the posture in this issue.

There is extremely broad based support for neutrality in India except for the very small…like 5% of people who are ameri/anglo-philes.

Yep. As much as DCUM likes to think Indian politics is driven by Hindutva, it actually doesn't work like that on the ground in India. Plus, when India was a Soviet ally, the Congress party was in power.

Not to mention that there is an element of racism in how the US treats India vs how the US treats Israel.

Good point.

People are definitely a lot more mad at India when their Russia policy is pretty similar to Israel.

Hmmm I wonder why

Really? I'm not seeing people calling India "revolting", etcetera.

State dept wants Biden to sanction India.

No one wants to sanction Israel.

No they dont. What kind of stupid disinfo is this?

I have plenty of relatives in India and most of them are regurgitating straight Kremlin talking points.

Really? DP and I also have a ton of relatives in India. that's not what I am hearing - they feel like non-involvement is the safe option. There is also some concern about Russia arming Pakistan if India agrees to Russian sanctions.

So it's announced after the deadline for arrival? Or does it mean March 2023?

^^ That’s just for Ukrainians who were here on visas prior to March 1st. Not open to others. Also no talk of how many refugees we will take in.

But why not make the deadline like March 31st? Why 2 days ago?

The only ones we need expressing their displeasure are China, because Russia depends on them for a lot of stuff, and OPEC, because Europe and the US need their oil if we're to implement a ban on Russian oil and gas imports.

India is welcome to stay neutral.

For the needle to move on China and OPEC countries, Russia will have to really go crazy in Ukraine, such that it's no longer feasible for any country's image to pretend to look the other way.

The needle has started moving tonight, with the fire at a nuclear reactor. Putin would love to lay waste to Ukraine, in a "if I can't have it, nobody can for thousands of years" sick murder-suicide lover way, and if he shows signs of going there, no nuclear country can stay neutral, because that it every nuclear country's worst nightmare.

We need reasonably priced and abundant OPEC oil, people, to starve the Russian government of its only source of money, oil and gas sales. OPEC countries must be persuaded to make a gesture, and that will only come if Russia, who is a member of OPEC +, turns into a PR disaster.

We need to stop Russia now. This has gone too far. The world will suffer from the actions of a dying mad man.

That has to do with a previous set of sanctions and has been on the table since before the invasion. Dummy

Reasonable cost oil isn’t a right.

How do Europeans and Asians deal with petrol prices?

USA should deal with 7 dollar gas. It isn’t hard. It’s almost spring. Walk. Stay at home. Ride a bike.

Many of Europe's major cities are walkable. US cities are mostly not. The average daily commute is 16 miles one way in the US-not exactly bike friendly.

Sounds like a good time to rethink suburban planning.

The sanctions regime was a framework that Is being brought up again due to recent actions as a catalyst

The issue isn’t when the initial language was written but when/why it is being debated for enforcement. It is clearly being brought up now due to Russian actions in Ukraine.

It is irrelevant that the language/framework was form 2017

The average daily commute to work? We've mostly been WFH for two years. No reason why we can't keep doing that.
