Superintendent's Recommendation for Richard Montgomery ES #5 Boundaries

Or how about people talk about the horrible injustices that have happened to WG? First they lost their ES and had to go to CG back when Roosevelt was President and now they have to switch to Beall.

At least hungerford is happy with the 26% farms, much better outcome than the original superintendent recommendation. Not everyone will be happy CG3 didn't get what they wanted but most everyone in the cluster did.

No, only the BOE votes. The others at the table are various staff who have helped with the process and are available to answer questions.

So, initially, there were 4 votes for A, then 2 votes for E (or something like that), then 5 votes for B. So, a couple of people voted for more than one option?

Yes, some members voted for more than one option. I think some members didn't vote at all, but I could be wrong.

The vote was structured to consider one option at a time. They didn't vote for all of the options at one time. I'm sure they discussed beforehand what options members preferred and arranged the individual motions to vote for the options that some members preferred but weren't going to win first. There were 5 votes for B, 2 votes against, and 1 abstention.

All 8 board members have to vote (yes, no, or abstain) on every motion that is proposed and seconded. They can't skip voting at all.

Odd not much support for option E, and two members even put forward option D over option E.

I missed that. Who supported D?

Dixon was alone with D. She made a fantastic point, even though I won't do the way she was trying to solve it.

I thought the student member, Post, said he thought D was best, but put forth E to a vote as a compromise.

No, he said D looked best for numbers but he realized the commute was terrible so he proposed Option E to the board.

Only he and Dixon voted yes for that.

No. Ortmon-Fouse and Post voted for E. Dixon did not vote in favor of E.

We should fight to get RP2 a bus. It's a bad walk. Since now no one will be trying to prove that it's a good walk, it may be easier. Few BOE members already agree, but not all of them agree.

PTA pay for Uber? Like some schools.

The RM cluster should really push for funding at the high school for expansion and dealing with capacity. Also, the issues with twinbrook' s outdated building.

That's a good option as well. I was not aware of PTA paying. TB should be a big priority for all of us.

I don't think RM additions will happen with Crown coming. Crown is coming for sure.

Post is naive. Great we have a tail wagging the dog.

It’s a bike/walking path. Then some other property lines.

The walk is no different than the farthest points of every other cluster school’s 1 mile radius. They don’t need a bus.

The PTA’s do not fund Uber’s for daily rides to school. They fund rides for parents to get to events when they don’t have a car and live far away from the school. Like if T2 were to move to CG. They would have funded Uber’s for those parents for conferences, PTA meetings, etc.. they aren’t going to Uber walkable kids.

So Woodley Gardens isn't happy with B, Rose Hill isn't happy with B and B5S isn't happy with B. They "mostly" wanted A.

All other areas stayed the same between A and B?

B gets the FARMS down at #5 by 3% or so and it opens capacity at College Gardens ES, down from 100% to 83%. That's it? .

You break up Woodley/College Gardens, Rockville West End and divide Rose Hill? For 3%?

Maybe it's because A left CG at over capacity still, and ES#5 too much under capacity. I think capacit was a key factor, as it should be. It's the main purpose of opening the new ES.

B does not break up west End.

Yup. At least 1 person from CG3 has already complained on my FB feed about the decision. "It's horrible for WG!"
