For all the posters asking about the gala — Gala was well-done and well attended.

To the PPs asking about the Coach of the Year - went to Sean Burke.

Btw- last spring he was named Coach of the Year by WaPo, for the third time so seems to be widely celebrated for his commitment to his players as well as his success.

They don't have the foresight to have planned another alliance even though they apparently knew this was coming. If they were smart they would have fought to keep the ECNL badge that Loudoun/NVA dropped and tried to form an alliance with another club(s).

Do you think Valor knew? I am not convinced. NVA was reaching out to Valor as recently as late January about internal ID sessions for pre-ECNL players from both clubs. I heard one session got abruptly canceled. Not sure if it was canceled for everyone or just a certain gender or age group. NVA may very well have kept this to themselves only to leave Valor high and dry.

This club is becoming an embarrassment. We were sold on the Pre-ECNL due to the alliance with NVA and now that is gone. Where is the accountability from leadership? We have one kid on the boys and one on the girls. Cory, Paul and Craig should be talking to each team about their plans for the boys and girls side. Being transparent is the best policy and it starts with communication. Have any of the Pre-ECNL coaches addressed this their teams. Ours haven’t.

Not a word for from our pre-ecnl coach. This is total bs. For the amount of loyalty almost everyone on the team has had to this club it's a slap in the face.

Loyalty to a travel soccer club only ends in disappointment.

We're learning that hard lesson for sure. It sucks because our team did well this fall but we're not sure it's worth staying at this point.

Coach of the year...Former coach of the 2011 team? My son's 2011 team played his team a few seasons ago and he got carded for screaming at the refs. Yikes!

Valor Marketing Guy, did anyone make an announcement at the "gala" that Valor was dropped from the fake "alliance" -your players only theoretic path to higher level soccer?

Sean is one of the bright spots for Valor. Excellent coach who develops players.

Also, not a Valor Marketing guy but a parent who has experienced Sean.

Thanks for backing me up.

I’m the poster who posted about the Gala - not the marketing guy. I’m actually the mom who started this entire thread. Crazy, huh? Yep. Still questioning our involvement w Valor, but have stuck it out and we are fine w that decision (thank goodness we did get a new coach this year at least). It’s certainly been interesting though to read along w this thread’s developments!

Thanks crazy Dads for keeping it interesting!

Omg. This. This is your standard? Gotta say, in our 10 years of soccer we’ve seen lots of coaches get carded for yelling at the ref. Now, one tournament we saw another team’s coach get threatened w a card for yelling at his team. THAT is a real problem!
We’ve never had Sean as a coach but honestly I would be surprised by that, given his professionalism (he’s not a full time soccer guy - he’s been w FCPS for 20 years as a school counselor).

What did they say at the gala about losing any access to higher level soccer?
Anonymous
Maybe it was a case of mistaken identity.

My dd refs and any coach losing their shite on a teenage referee (and we frequently have teens at our ncsl games) does not deserve any kind of award. That's so embarassing.

Valor Marketing Guy: has your coach of the year ever been yellow or red carded for bad behavior at a game?

Are the clubs notified when coaches receive yellow cards or just red cards?

Yes, why didn't the marketing guy address this?
Anonymous
Well hopefully if that coach is so great he can polish his resume and upgrade himself out of
the Valor cesspool.

Bc I am NOT the marketing guy -- as I said, I'm a mom. I have a full time job that's NOT soccer so just not as quick to the reply as you'd like
NO - they did not address losing access to higher level soccer -- will let you know if I hear anything!

Thanks!

So you don't have a kid on Valor but you are trolling this site? Klassy.

And yes - Burke was the coach of the 2nd team of 2011 Boys in 2022-23.
