The White House isn't on immediate damage control, so perhaps the report doesn't have anything new.

Sigh. I hope Collins, Murkowski, and Heitkamp see their way through this. Flake will probably be a yes.

As a Mainer, I have no faith in Collins.

We should all pray tonight.
Anything can happen.
If it happens, someone will start the impeachment process.

Be like the health care law. It was better that Obamacare was not overturned

Same thing here , best thing that can happen for republicans is that report shows nothing and Kavanaugh withdraws

Amen

I don't think they have the votes. It will end the same way Harvard did. He really upset the legal community. He will get counseling from his team, then the announcement will follow.

Amen. For all the Devils Triangles and spiked punch talk, what he did in the 80s is irrelevant. Because his behavior at the hearing was absolutely disqualifying. The rudeness, the contempt of members of Congress, his inability to keep his cool, the Cliton conspiracy crap— all of it. And maybe you have to be a member of the legal community to understand it. But if you are going to be a federal judge, you agree to certain guidelines. One is to have a judicial temperament— to be the calmest person in the room, to be the one who diffuses tense situations and reigns people in, and not lose your temper. Another is to avoid even the appearance of partiality or impropriety.

I have seen people say they would be upset too. So would I. But if you can’t hold it together, you are not qualified to be a judge. It’s like being a therapist and not being empathetic. Being a judge is a job the requires certain personality traits.

I have never heard that K has the reputation for being a hot head. So his temper tantrum was shocking. And stupid. I have seen it reported that McGann cleared the room after Fords testimony and told him he had to come out swinging. If true it was terrible advice and complete amateur hour. And it sank the nomination. He would have been hearing cases this week if he had kept his cool.

I work with lawyers from the Federalist society to Berniefan club. And everyone agrees that seating him would seriously damage the legitimacy of the Court and that he should withdraw.

To say the legal community is really upset is an understatement.

Well said.

This whole thing - not just the Kavanaugh debacle - but Trump and Republicans extreme interest in seating judges from this society makes that whole organization look like an ‘ignorant group think club’. We know that Trump hates judges that think for themselves and yet he loves the judges from the Federalist Society? Are people that desperate for power? Desperate enough to simply be someone else’s pawn?

his cracks me up. Attack a man by accusing him of attempted rape. Have activists make his family's life a living hell. The say he doesn't have the temperament for a judge because he came in swinging to protect himself and his family.

When an innocent man is wrongly accused, that's usually how they react. Ask any police officer as it's one of the things they look for in a suspect when someone is murdered. Guilty people tend to act more like Ford did, i.e. story changes all the time, can't pin down details, say someone can vouch and they can't, etc.

This is exactly correct. Thank you.

Wrong. Coming from a long line of police officers. COMPLETELY wrong. BIGLY WRONG.

Sheesh. I can't keep up with this thread but the first poster above is wrong. I have 22 years of experience with interviewing suspects and the innocent ones do not behave like cornered animals. I think many people commenting on his demeanor did not see all his testimony. The media cherry picked the fairly mild parts. The crying about his father's calendars was bizarre. As if his dad were long dead. There he was sitting with his second wife three seats down from Brett. Between the easily rebutted lies and his courtroom demeanor I think he is not a good candidate for the highest court. He should be above all reproach .

I will never understand how some of you insist his crying about "the calendars" was bizarre. Obviously, it wasn't literally the calendars he was crying over; he was devastated mentioning his father because HE HAD TO SIT THERE IN FRONT OF HIS FATHER KNOWING HIS FATHER WAS HEARING ALL OF THESE DISGUSTING THINGS ALLEGED ABOUT HIM. Have you people no empathy at all? His dad is probably someone he's always looked up to, and here is his entire family, utterly disgraced and mortified because of these 35+ year old allegations - which he has no way of defending himself from. My God, I'd be crying too! He cried when mentioning his beloved daughters and wife, too. This has got to be the worst time in his entire life, and you're criticizing him for crying?? Unbelievable.

Why would we want to look at this?

To find out that one of the varsity football players lived four blocks from Columbia Country Club? And not the Ed Whelan one.

Which one?

Merkle. Varsity Football; Chairman of the Board of Renate Alumni; Keg City Club; Beach Week ‘82; Killer Q’s Club; Devil’s Triangle; 100 Kegs or Bust; Alcoholics Unanimous; and Prep Brew Crew, among other activities. Absolutely a friend of Brett’s.

Please note that I AM NOT ACCUSING HIM OF ASSAULTING CHRISTINE BLASEY, ala Ed Whelan. But I have always suspected that she doesn’t remember how she got home because she made her way back to the club and was picked up as was usual. My family were members at Kenwood and I spent many full days there as a teen, and definitely walked to friends’ empty houses during the day and got into trouble if we wanted.

That's what I thought about Flake until Friday.

This is so interesting - not - but it is clear you have never been involved in anything of any significance - like LIFE significance. My husband has had clients who were truly facing the end to their lives as they knew it, hearing people say terrible things about them, in front of their families, and they did not act this way. My father has seen the same things. You are seeing what you want to see, and it does not have any relation to what people actually do in those situations. He was doing a huge show and you lapped it up.

He must be impeached if he is voted in.

Say what? How are we supposed to feel empathy for this brilliant jurist while at the same time follow the standard he set? That's unrealistic and you're insane for expecting that to happen.

Whoops, I didn’t finish my thought. If it’s not obvious, I don’t think Merkle did anything but I do think this happened at his house.

Yes, and I remember all of you defending Clinton to the hilt. My, how the tide has turned.

He had no defenders for his behavior after it was proven he had lied. Democrats admitted he did wrong, they just didn't think it deserved impeachment for lying once. And he held up pretty well through a four-year investigation that included false accusations of murder that turned to be pushed by one Brett Kavanaugh. Brett can't even stand up through a few weeks scrutiny. He may have told multiple lies to Congress in his testimony. People who know him have come out publicly and said he lied, but the FBI won't talk to them. If Bill Clinton deserved a 4-year investigation, and Hillary deserved 8 investigations into Benghazi and a year-long investigation into his emails, surely Kavanaugh deserves more than a 5 day "limited" investigation.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

kavanaugh couldn't even handle being questioned by anyone who wasn't a republican kissing his ass. He could not have made it as a lawyer in a firm. I think this is he got in so deep with the republicans and federalists, he can really only handle when people are giving him softballs.

The Democrats better hope that the FBI found something damning on Kavanaugh, that prevents his confirmation. Otherwise, this is going to backfire on them. The fact that his confirmation seems to hinge on a high yearbook from 36 years ago is obnoxious and is symbolic of MeToo overreach. If there isn’t some serious dirt, this will all seem completely unjustifiable.

People defending Kavanaugh will, I suppose, believe that a Seminary Professor who is a former roommate, is a liar.

Since the FBI didn't really investigate, and basically hid from any witnesses who tried to contact them, I think this is looking even more justifiable.

Something is rotten in DC.
