Yep. And Daphne’s other revenge is having kids with her trainer.

Oh ffs. She did not have kids with her trainer. The trainer was a metaphor.

Agree. Where are people getting that? Cause the kids are blonde? Both my DH and I have very dark brown hair. All our kids were blonde when young.

There is a very strong suggestion of that in the scene with Harper. It's ambiguous, sure, but we are clearly supposed to think she's suggesting that - otherwise why give the description of the trainer right before showing a picture of the trainer - oh wait it's the kid - who matches the description exactly? The idea that we are supposed to understand it as a "metaphor" and when she says she sleeps with her trainer what she ACTUALLY means is that she really loves her kids (???) never made any sense.

Then Cameron gets this extremely dark look when she summons him to chat with the kids. Despite the (sad) DCUM posts saying that every man hates FaceTiming his kids and Cameron is just a regular kid-hating Dad ( ), that scene strongly suggested that Cameron suspects the kids aren't his.

+1. Exactly. That is how Daphne plays hide and seek with Cam. She's very sweet - Hon, come, you're such a good Dad come say I love you to your adorable offspring! Who can say no to that? Everything Daphne does is calculated to make her look sweet, somewhat ditzy and beyond suspicion. But she is the instigator of the fourple drama. What fun!

Seductive Asian women who are also somehow wise being the balm of the soul of old white dudes. Who screw them and then leave.

Wise shaman types (Pat Morita anyone?) who proscribe knowledge in a superficial bid to get rich which people (probably women) to have realizations about life (again, likely superficial, but they feel profound at the time.)

Don't get me wrong, I'll watch every second, but there are many well trodden plot devices out there. We'll see if any are employed in the next White Lotus.

Who do I want to see back? I want to learn more about Daphne and Cameron. I feel like we just scratched the surface.

Asia is huge. It’s not cheap to film in half of it either. Easiest in SE island Asia/Vietnam or Tahiti. More difficult and expensive in Japan, even India, Malaysia, s Korea.
China a no go.

I don’t think white needs Asia.

IMO Fiji and Bali are the two locales with the most potential for incredible beauty/luxury and interplay with local population that has morphed itself to a service industry for the uber rich

I'm surprised on Fahy - I thought she had way more outstanding scenes than just that. The whole casual calling Cam from the palazzo and then explaining she and Cam both play games. Her slight freakout the next morning when she tells Harper she was really high and tries to minimize what she said. And she had a similar reaction when Harper told her she thought something happened with Ethan and Cam - before she turned as hard as nails. She was masterful in portraying a woman who is constantly working on keeping her mask from slipping, and just when it does, catching herself and putting it right back on.

Plaza played the same sarcastic syndicalism role as parks and rec. and all my teenagers. It’s not difficult.

Bingo, she's literally playing herself, down to the dubious Puerto Rican roots. But so many nearly and middle aged millennial women "identify" with her, so they fangirl her. They are also *so* sarcastic and witty, so they rationalize her character cheating on her husband with his college bully as nbd.

And my god do they all hate a happy pretty girl, with a vengeance! It is your typical RBF (resting b@tch face) poster that thinks she’s more intelligent and “worthwhile” than these women that men love. They can’t admit they’d kill for someone to take care of them and show some affection. They are in sexless marriages with men that won’t have sex with them and dream of (if not actually) banging OW’s husbands…kind of like Ethan sticking it to Cam-to get even. It’s their way of getting back at every popular cheerleader/homecoming Queen or nice girl from high school that guys liked.

You nailed it. Like when Harper called Cameron an idiot. Even though she just had a quickie with him, she deluded herself into thinking she’s smarter than he is. Cameron is a Yale graduate. Presumably a multi-millionaire financier. Happily married, SAHM wife and children (the cheating is just empty calories, he clearly loves his wife). The idiot douchebag who set out and successfully conquered her a few days after meeting her. Yep, he’s an idiot. But the resting b**** face sarcastic attorney in a sexless unhappy marriage, successfully brainwashed by bogus NY Times, NPR, and MSNBC hysteria, and wasting what little is left of her fertility extorting corps for sexual harassment settlements — she is totally not an idiot.

A swing and a miss! This show went over your head.

NP. The point is that, by saying how she really feels about Cam's rant, it signals to Ethan that Harper is now quite "familiar" with Cam, as Harper's normal mode of operation in such cases would be eye roll and trash the person later behind their back. So the point of all this is to show that something did in fact go down between Cam and Harper and now had no chance of convincing Ethan that it didn't.

Theo James agrees Cameron is a toxic ahole (maybe a sociopath), and that there's a decent chance one of his kids is not his, in this interview with Rolling Stone: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/theo-james-on-hbo-the-white-lotus-season-2-finale-twists-aubrey-plaza-meghann-fahy-blond-kid-1234645618/

Also, I thought this assessment of the Cameron/Daphne relationship was interesting (and I think I basically agree), I've bolded the parts I think are most relevant:

"But that was the thesis initially: how do you judge a relationship? Cameron and Daphne are deeply in love but there’s an open element to their relationship, and that may work for them, and who are we to judge that? Perhaps it’s a commentary on dating standards and what conventional relationships mean. On the other hand, if Daphne says to Ethan, oh, if Cameron and Harper may have done something come this way, and she and Ethan go and **** each other and potentially one of their children has a father that is unbeknownst to them, that is when it becomes problematic and that level of complication is unhealthy."

It makes me think of a couple I met a while ago who are in an open marriage. At first I remember thinking "huh, they've really worked out something that works for them, good for them." And I still feel that way to some degree. But as I've gotten to know them better I've learned things about their arrangement that are kind of messed up. Like one of them has a diagnosed personality disorder that makes them extremely controlling, and one of the reasons for opening their marriage is that it allows that partner to maintain a controlling relationship with a different person and not try to control the spouse, which the spouse would not like and would be toxic to the marriage. On the one hand, impressive solution to a tricky issue! On the other hand, uh, that personality disorder manifests in more ways than one, and also, what about the person on the side who is being controlled, essentially absorbing the worst aspects of this person's personality to facilitate a healthier marriage? It's kind of effed, actually. That's how I view Daphne and Cameron. They are making it work and in some ways I admire it, but things they are doing to make it work are things I'm uncomfortable with on several levels, so there is nothing aspirational about their relationship in the end for me.

Apparently Jenna Bush Hager was upset that she twerked 🙄 #UnclechWASPs

She nailed the Gen Z look. She is great in Edge of Seventeen.

Sounds like the whole cast was hooking up and sleeping together during filming.

Haileys Lizzo twerking impression was ok. Great for womankind.

Oh, hey, Aubrey Plaza hater. You're still here, and still on this one? Cool.

I've never seen her in anything before, so it's funny you think I identify with her or I'm a fangirl. I'm just actually able to acknowledge that she discharged her acting responsibilities well in the show. And if you don't know the character's motivations for cheating, you weren't paying attention.

I don’t know you or anything.
I loved Parks & Rec but Plaza was cast to play herself in the role, just like she played herself in Parks and Rec.
Frankly it was a little jarring seeing her 15 years older w tons of foundation on, behaving the same as when she was 24.

I disagree with any acting nomination for the role of snarky teen. That’s a dime a dozen.

Agree with your theta that Fahy acted fantastically well on considerably more complex and nuanced character. Her emotional facial expressions alone are worth an award, then later in the tone and words said. Much more difficult than flapping your arms and monotonally saying”what’s going to happen with us?” With a stare down. I will give Harper character credit for asking the tough questions though. Not that it ever resulted in a real discussion.

Harper also had amazing facial expressions, and eating segments for that matter. And she came full circle- over it, to in it, to past it again.

So you do justify Harper sleeping with her husband’s college bully (yes bully, not buddy)? That is a rational response to seeing him converse with the prostitutes in the lobby? And really, with her flirting with Cameron the night before, it seems the motive and desire was in motion even before she saw him conversing with them in the lobby the morning before the hotel room romp. From my point of view, and especially after she learned about how Cameron tormented him in college, it was actually psychopathic and could drive a fragile emo boy like Ethan to suicide.

Who said anything about rationalizing it? I said that Plaza acted well enough that we understood the character’s motivation. Are you really incapable of detached analysis of a media product?

I found her 180 not believable. It wasn’t tied together, it was a big leap. And zero acting contributed to anything.

She hates jocks, fin bros, womanizers, prostitution, people who don’t watch mass media, people who don’t read or vote, basically anyone who isn’t like her.

Then she supposed gets so kissed at her husband and marriage, she does a shot at 10am and goes for him in the room. And texts her husband she’s up at the room? Then she’s instantly happy w her husband because he does a 180 and sits close to her smiling for the first time in forever. That’s beyond odd- bad writing and rushed.

Harper's so sharp and deep... that she immediately fell for Cam's obvious pick-up artist (PUA) 101 negging. She wanted to be desired and conquered like all the college women Cam stole from Ethan.

Actually, we know that Cam uses protection.

Oy vey you are naive. He uses condoms with prostitutes. He doesn’t walk around with a condom in his swim trunks drunk from ripping shots during the day.

Nah, Ethan was right. It was a tell trying to deflect from the fact she went up stairs to f*** him. Which she confessed to after this.
