SIL is silently mooching off our Netflix streaming account

Anonymous
On our recent family visit to her house, SIL set up a video for all the kids using our Netflix streaming, and thus learned our account password. Now I've been seeing by the "Recently Watched" section in our account that she is continuing to use our Netflix account to show her kid videos, without having even asked us about it. It's not interfering with our ability to use our Netflix account, but it's rubbing me the wrong way, partly because it's cheating, partly because she didn't ask, and partly because it's another sign of how cheap she is. (Also I'm not sure I like the idea of her seeing what videos I watch, although I guess that's not a big deal -- I'm not watching pornos or anything! ) I'm considering just changing the password without saying anything to anyone (like DH), but we have a vexed history and she'll know that I did it deliberately to close her out. Of course, there's an outside chance that she'd bring it up and ask for access to the account, now that she's got the idea in her head. Should I just let it go? Change the password because it's the right thing to do? Tell her, if she asks to share, that we can't share, and what reason to give that doesn't open the door for resentment? WWYD?

Change the password.

Change the password and in my mind dare her to say anything. What could she possibly say? Hey you changed the password so I can't piggy back off you??/ If she asks, say yeah I changed the passwords to all my accounts on a regular basis and then say nothing. At that point she would be forced to ask. Whenever you stop letting people use you, they will get pissed. She will get over it.

Change the password and see how she responds. If she has any sense,Moshe will keep quiet about it.

A lot of people periodically change passwords.

I'd change the password. That way, she might be irritated, but she'd have to come clean about what she's been doing and be extremely forward and ask you for the password. That would be awkward for her. If she does, you can act all innocent and ask her why she would need a password to YOUR account. You didn't realize she had been using it this ENTIRE TIME after all, you were only there for a couple of days. You assumed if she wanted one she would get her own. You certainly didn't realize that you needed to send her a memo every time you changed a password on one of your accounts. That will probably shut her up. If not, you can tell her that if NetFlix sees that access is coming from two places for a long time simultaneously, they could shut down the account. (They track stuff like that, don't they?)

A co-worker of mine shares one account among three different households of her family/boyfriend. Though, I have never checked it myself, she says up to three are allowed under Netflix rules.

8:22 here

There are approx 4-5 of us who mooch off my sisters Netflix and we are in different states and they never seem to have noticed. I dont think they track it. The only problem comes up when more than 3 users try to access the account at the same time, but if we do it at different times of day, its fine.

Change your password.

Netflix is cheap. Your SIL can get it for herself, and you don't have to deal with weird things coming up in your suggestions!

I wouldn't care unless it interfered in my ability to watch videos.

Otherwise, who cares?

change the password. she's a creep for using your account without asking. If you enable a creep, she's going to find more ways to impose on you, so cut her off now.

Also might be a good idea to check the netflix rules to see what they allow.

+1

Change the password, we do periodically anyway.

Change the password! She should at least ask if she wants to use it! If she is nervy enough to ask if you changed the password, you should tell her you were really concerned because you noticed your account had been hacked and you reported it to Netflix so they could investigate from where it had been hacked to report to the authorities
