What is your take on the Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt divorce saga? What happened on the plane?

Wow. She’s already talking about appealing the decision. One gets the sense that, unless she gets what she wants, she will be fighting this custody battle until the kids have all reached 18 years of age. I can’t imagine the legal bills.

She's really desperate to get full custody, not just to stick it to him, but so she can settle overseas as she prefers. Delaying still keeps custody in her favor, but doesn't get her what she most wants. But the judge has now made it full custody is not on the table, and likely primary is not either. Good.

+1 And nothing is stopping her from moving overseas now. Brad can take majority of custody. She can fly over monthly to visit and the kids can go to her for 6 weeks in the summer.

I don't know what happened, but something happened on that plane that involved a child, not AJ. He got into a physical altercation with Maddox that day, not AJ. So I think this is more confident a proclamation than I would make. I actually like both of them and think this has been a really sad ending.

Based on another blog, I believe he is a really bad drunk. Jen had to cover for him on many occasions. And yes, he would piss he friends yards. So I believe he did on the tarmac.

But I don’t think the drinking was the issue or DM. The drinking was not new. I think he was getting close to Jen again (per the other blog) and that sent Jolie over the top. Brad was calling and see Jen to support her while her mom was in hospice. Theroux was filming and not in LA.

+1 - I refuse to believe Brad Pitt is some monster. And while I liked them together and have always given her a pass on some of her nuttier behavior, if either of the two of them has exhibited a history of instability during their lives, it's her. And she's digging a deep hole here by attacking the judge. Judges don't like that. And they like it even less when you AGREED to the judge in the first place. I don't know what happened on that plane, but it should be a high bar to deprive a parent of access to their child.

Looks like he did get a ruling for joint custody, but not settled because Jolie is appealing and still trying to get the judge thrown off the case. One weird tidbit is that a source close to her says she doesn't object to joint custody but can't discuss the issue because it is sealed. What could that possibly be about?

What on earth is a private judge?

I have no idea, but based on other parts of the article where she objected to the judge refusing to allow the older kids to testify I'm going to speculate that what she wanted was joint custody on paper with the older kids allowed to decide if they would go to visitation with Brad or not.

That makes sense. This seems like a good ruling. Although I have no trouble believing their relationship became toxic and he was capable of being an angry drunk, he's cleaned up his act and the judge evidently did not feel the domestic violence claims were credible.

Kind of like an arbitration judge. I don't know how common it is, but basically both parties agree to the judge and agree to be bound by the judge's rulings. It's one way to keep the details of your divorce private. Once everything is said and done I think they would file something with an actual court to record the dissolution of the marriage, but without many details of how property and custody are split.

^^and of course the judge has to follow applicable laws.

An extraordinary amount of money was spent on this case all because she refused to accept the inevitable. Clearly she's still not going to accept this, which is so sad for the kids. They should be allowed to build a healthy relationship with their father without her interference. She of all people should grasp that, given her own experience.

No winners here. Those kids must be very screwed up. She did get a partial victory in the sense that she was able to ice him out for a long time, and make sure the kids' bond was mostly broken. Very sad.

+1. Is she just a super vindictive and petty person? Their kids are better off having relationships with both parents. It’s extremely difficult to believe Brad did anything so horrible that he should lose access to his children.
