The high school teams all have pretty lousy records this summer. Yet the recruitment machine continues to roll. What's up with that.

The secret is out - no one gives a shit who wins or loses at these overhyped summer tourneys. The coaches seek out talent. They hedge their bets by counting on the clubs to cut the wheat from the chaff. So if you are a member of VLC (or any other of the top 20 clubs), coaches assume you can play at a very high level. Sure, vLC has a crappy record across the board this summer, but when all is said and done, 2/3 of the team will end up being recruited to play at the college level.

Not all teams have a crappy record this summer

yea but the ones with good records played mediocre competition, so...

I dunno, if I were recruiting I’d focus on teams with talent that wins rather than a team with talent that loses.

all the VLC teams played in similar events. The competition for all clubs ranges from good to mediocre. VLC does play the toughest schedule of any Virginia based team. Hard to consider Madlax a VA based team at this point. All the teams face top 20 competition this summer. I am sure your can respond with another troll type comment but the facts do not support it. Anyone who has the tourney machine app can judge for themselves.

that's why you aren't a recruiter. College coaches are looking for student-athletes, not teams. If a team wins having a dominant fogo... that doesn't mean the defense and goalie are awesome since they hardly see any action. Or uses holdbacks to exploit temporary size, speed and skill advantages.

That's why you are not a college recruiter. Let me guess. You are a dad that screams his head off at a HS tournament and berates refs.

VLC 2020 did have some players missing, especially on day 2. They were down a goalie along with some other players. They played Team 91 right off the bat in game 1 and Team 91 won the tournament. The rest of their games were close losses.

Colleges recruit individuals not teams.

I would not call Eclipse or many other teams faced this summer simply “good”. VLC directors apparently think losing to a top 20 team is better than trouncing a bottom 20 team. College coaches agree. The facts bear this out - when over 2/3 of any given vlc team commits, that’s sayin something.

I have sons that have played for a few different programs when they were in high school and they both went on to play D1. I've been looking at the VLC summer results and they've been spotty. It looks like they have a pretty talented 2023 team and their 2020s and 2021s did ok and it looks like a tough season for 2022s. What I think is most important is what kind of coaching are they getting and if your son wants to play at the next level is this club going to not only develop them but do their best to get him recruited. Looking at the college commits I would say that VLC has as good a rate of recruiting as any other program. I have to feel that college coaches know many of the programs and know the kinds of kids that come out of them. I am sure there are good things and bad things about all programs, but if your good and bad is how many games they win at tournaments you may be looking at the wrong things. I am not a VLC expert but I do follow them on Twitter and I routinely see posts about kids getting recruited and then kids actually playing at the next level and making real contributions not just waiting on the sidelines. If you are a parent looking for a better option for your son, check out their site and tryouts and see if its a fit. Do the same with some of the other area clubs. Get a feel for it, a tryout fee is a minimal investment to find who is going to help your son play his best and be recognized for that play. My 2 cents.

Recent thread bashing Madlax. Now some random person who apparently has no connection to VLC just went through the trouble to write a long post about his 2 cents on VLC and then even goes as far as suggests parents have their kids try out for it, all unsolicited. Seems pretty suspicious with tryouts coming up, especially since VLC has had trouble forming younger teams, having had tryouts for younger grades as recently as last year and then never actually forming a team for those grade levels.

Talk to current parents and definitely be wary of things you read here.

What’s the relationship between Crabs and VLC? Seems like pretty much two separate organizations?
