Hush on skin tone. Got it. Red Line attack-take 3

Todays paper said police are retiring left and right and we are below what's considered the ideal number of officers. So many shortfalls. Bowser? Lanier? Plan please.[/quote
Haha. Lanier has been heard and quoted as telling some officers that they need to leave so that she can promote new officers to rank. We are talking about baby five year experienced police officers she wants to promote because she thinks fifty year olds are to old for police work. Meanwhile they have said enough of her craziness and are leaving. There are multiple shootings everyday. The only reason people don't care is because modern medicine is preventing the shootings from becoming homicide.

Given all the threats our city is under, why is there no coordinated way to lock down metro and conduct a search? I find reports that the kids may have escaped on a train going in the opposite direction (despite being pointed our by witnesses) very disturbing. Why can't we put checkpoints at entrances/exits and stop trains????

In the smoke train disaster, we found out metro radios don't work--despite all the lessons of 9/11 and orders to fix those systems going back to 9/11. Similar with cellphone coverage. And they can't even hold a train?

Why is there no inter metro communication system between customers- WMATA workers - WMATA police that works, as well as coordination below ground from WMATA police and above ground with regular DC police response?

It is unacceptable that we are unable to muster a response to a mob attack in a contained space, that should have both communication AND surveillance systems, as well as controlled entrances and egresses.

Exactly. Setting aside the social issues discussed here for a moment, there should be more security on Metro for a variety of possible emergencies.

Its ridiculous. Absolute ridiculous that the radios dont work, that they can't seem to quickly coordinate/swoop on an emergency small or large. I mean, couldn't they have stopped opposite trains and put checkpoints at exits? That would give witnesses something to work with. How is the video footage in metro? That fuzzy indeterminate stuff or higher grade?

Who is the victim? Doesn't the media typically release the victim's name, as long as it's not a minor??

You all really trust your fellow passengers to know how to carry and use a weapon safely? How do you protect yourself against someone who carries a loaded weapon in her purse and it goes off by accident? Carrying a gun myself won't protect me from stupid people who can't manage their own weapons competently.

The Monday mystery man wasn't just "robbed," you fool. Never been victimized, have you?

This is absurd. We need to demand that the video be released. We need to identify and bring justice for the victim and his family.

Riding Metro is longer an option for me but I have the option.

Wondering who exactly is refusing to release the video?

This generation may be lost but to stop it in the future, if a woman is receiving government assistant she must be on birth control. If she gets pregnant she must have an abortion to continue to receive benefits. It sounds ugly, but it is the only way to stop creating environments & situations that will never improve.

Let's improve the future by taking away people's fundamental liberties!

Yes, if they want government assistance. If they had to live with the consequence of real poverty, the concept of cause & effect might be learned.

In fact, government assistance is a choice. You make the choice, you abide by the rules

the last article I saw said they could "not positively identify them". Anyone have an update?

Well, who the heck is "they"? The victim? Do you really believe the man who was nearly beaten to death, doesn't know which criminals did it?

I suspect the cops is the "they," who have little interest in doing their job.

Did the press report the race of the victim? Or where he's from? Or how he's doing now?

I guarantee you that if the victim went public, people would be calling him with death threats and some gangbanger would be more than glad to 'help'

I hate to admit it, but I think you're right. When "law enforcement" refuses to enforce the law and protect the people, the people will do what they can to protect themselves. They have families at home to feed. Not everyone can afford to drive to work every day. Lots of people don't have a car, and have no other option but Metro.

Kurt Russell said in an interview that he owns guns and that 'this is not the time to lay them down'. Well-said. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are fundamental rights granted by God. Government cannot take them. I have a right to protect my own life, and the lives of others, if government doesn't provide armed guards on metro

+1.

I find that offensive, and clearly racist.

Also, it is not really a "line," but more of a U-shaped curve.

What ARE you allowed to do in DC to protect yourself?

You can petition Mayor Bowser to create more midnight basketball games for DC's underprivileged 'juveniles.'

There will be no release of the video because it is a fundamental right of the District of Columbia to be respecting and protecting the privacy of the juvenile youth of DC. Besides, the video might only reinforce negative stereotypes and prejudice when we are wanting to create a positive image and esteem for our young people.

Any developments in the case?

Never mind the safety of law abiding citizens and the ability to actually catch the perpetrators of crime...
