For heavens' sake, no one has said that. It is the circumstances under which she has chosen to have so many children and the lengths to which she has gone that have led people to question her judgment.

Right, kids are more important. If I wouldn't treat dogs that way, I certainly wouldn't treat children that way.

By having all of them, that means she is treating them badly? Unless we have watched her in her home and know the way she cares for them then do we really know if she is treating them wrong? Or does money determine how well we raise our children?

Don't know if you're aware, but you need money to PAY for things... food, some clothes, rent, health insurance. Some attention to the kids would also be beneficial. None of them will get adequate care or attention.

It's one thing to have 14 kids in 14 years (a lot of work in itself) but 6 + 8 all at once. What's not getting thru to you?
Yes, I do know...like I said, I have eight and all my kids get the attention they need. I do a better job than most parents of two and have been told this by many.It is hard sometimes and no I do not spoil my children , but it can be done. And yes, I know it takes money to pay for things, i'm merely stating that money does not determine whether or not she will be a good mother. She seems driven and determined to be able to provide for them and with a little help from this selfish world I'm sure she will make it.

People magazine this week says she is not even taking care of the six she already had. They are cared for by grandma and a nanny. That's right - she has a nanny. And one of the 6 older kids is autistic. Now, I have a nanny myself, but I don't think I would go on TV nominating myself as mother of the year and how I have so much love for children I had to have 8 more when I am unemployed and have a nanny and someone else watching my kids.
If she has a nanny then she can't be doing that bad with the money situation. I doubt the selfish grandmother pays for it. And I wouldn't be too quick to believe everything you read. They tend to add alot to a story when it sells magazines. Yes, she might need some counseling and they probably shouldn't let have have anymore unless her situation changes dramatically. But everyone keeps avoiding the fact that people should come together to help her through this since they are already here. What's wrong with people these days?

Yeah, but since when does bad judgement make you insane? And to go so far as to take away her children because she doesn't have the ideal situation in which to raise them? Ridiculous! Giving our government that much control would be a dangerous infringement of everyone's rights. Let's just stand behind her and stop complaining. God wouldn't have let it happen if it wasn't meant to be. Who are we to judge?

Octomom had six children in five years. Then added 8 more to the mix, all because she felt she should have just one more, only it wasn't just one. It is possible to have lots of children, and give them love and attention, but when you have 14 children under the age of 8, and no significant other, there has to be neglect somewhere. I will guess that the older children already do a lot of care for the younger ones as it is, and can only imagine how much worse it will get for them.

I come from a large family, and we are all very close, but it wasn't easy for my parents. They did a nice job raising us, we lacked lots of material things, but we never went to bed without a hug, a kiss, and an I love you. We didn't get lots of individual attention, but on Sunday after church my dad would take one or two of us with him. Either to his office or out to lunch. Octomom has no father for her children, no one to share the stresses of her life with, and I believe that the help from her parents is going to be more limited than it has been. They seem angry with her for having more children, and I get the feeling they didn't know she was expecting as many as she was. I know the 8th was a surprise, but I don't think she told them about the 5 she thought she was expecting at first.

You do a better job than most parents of two by what criteria? What is with people who think they parent better only because they parent more children? It's not a contest to see how many kids you can have.

The publicist when ahead and did it. Her website is now live so for those of you who say we should help her out, you can contribute "via paypal". Pretty slick?

My heart breaks for these kids. I worry that the woman will snap from the pressure a la Andrea Yates or that there can only be some other bad ending to this story. I know it's not going to happen but in my dream scenario these kids would get adopted.

This is why I should never stay home from work -- even Dr. Phil is talking about this woman.

shut up stupid. What's wrong with being adopted away from a dysfunctional family with a crazy, delusional lady for a mom.

Apparently God didn't want Nadya to have kids. That's why she had to go the IVF route.

She's on food stamps. She CAN'T afford to feed her own children.

But she doesn't consider this welfare.

Nope. She also said that if she had help, it would be only food stamps, then she admitted it was.

Delusional or in denial, both are quite powerful to avoid seeing reality.

Isn't the first rule for doctors, "Do no harm"? How could a doctor think that implanting 6 embryos in this woman was a good idea?

Yes, there should be medical/ethical guidelines about the number of embryos implanted at a time. In a free society, that is about the only aspect of this we can regulate.

And I am unmoved by the pleas of "but what about a person who only has this one shot".... there are SO many children that need families, so many babies that could be adopted instead of aborted by desperate mothers. Get over the obsession with your own DNA and adopt if your IVF fails.
