Did it even crosses in somebody mind that she might be a patient that was mistakenly release after that riot. Because it don't make sense to have 8 more children after having 6 given the fact that she is on welfare unless she is manipulating the system. And now...she want to finish her master degree on counseling given the fact that she's the one that needed some counseling. What a joke! By the way, I'm retiring and all of you guys can pay for my retirement and also for her manipulation of the system.

She was a mental health worker.

I know that if I had a severe back injury, I'd run out and get pregnant 7 times. Great way to heal the back.

Yikes.

But..the kids are here and this lady needs to be helped because they need to have a mom who is not so stressed by all the anger out there that she does something stupid. As for calling the kids retarded--what is the point in that. Many people have kids who have some sort of disability who live wonderful lives and no one even knows if these kids have disabilities at this point.

well she has one autistic kid, one with ADHD and another one with autistic tendencies... what do you think the odds are of one or more of the octuplets having autism as well? Pretty high is you ask me. Specifically for the 6 boys.

This case a a sample of a much broader problem of peoplewho love all the goods from the good ole USA. If you visit some of the South American countries, you will find that a one bedroom apartment and a welfare check is heaven. They need to be cut off and sent to their home countries and made to stand up as people and get what is rightfully theirs. not just protesting our lawmakers for trying to curb their budget draining behavior. I live in Los Angeles and I am friends with many people who have come from other countries but they have gone through the process of being naturalized. Others are simply free loaders

Isn't this off topic to the original "Octuplet mom has 6 other kids"?

I am from a family of 17 and believe me, not always a joy ride and we live like it was the 1800's. My question relates to the IVF or drugs she was prescribed: people I know have to pay for it and its not cheap. This person isn't working so where did the money come from? Also, is she planning to what the Duggars and Jon & Kate plus 8 are doing and sell reality tv? I personally think this woman should have her head examined because its no bloody fun being a child and having to raise your siblings!

This story just keeps getting stranger. So the doctor implanted 6 embryos each time for 7 pregnancies. If you do a google search there is a UK article interviewing a former employee of his clinic. He supposedly has a very low rate of success and several malpractice suits in play.

It sounds as if this doctor implanted 6 every time to make up for his own deficiencies and inability to invest in the appropriate equipment to have a higher success rate. She doesn't sound and the story doesn't sound like she was ever expecting or hoping for eight. I can't fault someone for not wanting selective reduction especially if they are pro life.

Nadya has issues no doubt. Yes, trying to have a 7th kid via IVF when you are struggling financially is of course a very bad idea. However, I don't think she is the evil, completely insane creature she is being made out to be. As misguided as it may seem, it sounds as if she was under the impression from this doctor that she could only have kids for a limited window and wanted a big family. I have known a few people who jumped into have #2 or #3 before they were ready, financially and otherwise, because their biological clocks were ticking. I can't imagine having or wanting to have 7 kids. My grandmother though did have 7 kids before she was 30 and was a great mom. They all grew up in a 3 bedroom 1800 sq ft house which was considered really nice back then. There was a boys room and a girls room, hand me downs were the norm but they never felt or considered themselves poor or depriving their kids.

I am a single mom of 5 kids ages 1 to 12 yrs old and I have not been on welfare and I make it by myself. Think about these children, I don't believe she was expecting 8 babies to be born, and I think that instead of putting her down for making a mistake which all of us have done before(maybe not to this extreme) we need to stop talking so bad about her, put yourself in her shoes, how would you feel if people were talking about you? you would not like it. What did Jesus say, " He who is without sin cast the first stone" no one is perfect and I think the best thing to do is pray for her not put her down. and I think that God can take care of these children just like He takes care of mine. God Bless those children.....

I'm sure you work and you didn't go and impregnate YOURSELF AGAIN after people begged you not to, she did. She took "a risk, a gamble and it paid off" her exact words. I sure it will pay$$ off. There is a BIG difference between you and her.

Well, if only it could end in 18 years. All of the kids and the loon will need government funds to continue to live, especially the special needs ones who will be dependent on others for the rest of their lives. It's $3 million before the octuplets leave the hospital.

One more thing. "Crazy" things start in California and wash over the rest of the country. I think these incidents will happen in other parts of the country in a few years.

Oh please. Every mother of a special needs child is not a criminal because their child will be dependent on others for the rest of their lives.
Maybe California should get their long promised major earth quake. That should ruffle up the state budget feathers.

There was one (minority view again) ethicist stating that pregnancy makes women too emotional to make an effective decision regarding selection reduction and doctors should be able to override her choice in the interest of the mother's health. This concept is absoluetly horrifying to me. The right of refusal for medical treatments based on your religion, moral beliefs or just plain choice is one of our most important freedoms.

Selective reduction wouldn't even be an issue if the clinic/doctor refused to implant more than 2 or 3 embryos. Unbelievable that anyone did that when she already has a proven track record of carrying multiple IVF pregnancies to term.

AND YET what business it is of ours to judge! Should we continue to allow Jolie & Pitt to adopt since they already have so many? Perhaps there does need to be some legistlation out there surrounding this in order to make certain children are getting their emotional needs met but this too is arguable among the psychology world.
I also disagree that women are "too emotional". I have personally found men to be more emotional and unable to put the personal aside particularly when it involves personal relationships. I suppose this makes sense thought since men aren't as good at relationships as women.... we should be the pros at setting aside our personal feelings for the greater good as this is part of relationships and being the caretakers/nurturers we are.

Wouldn't it be great to live in a society that isn't so harsh and judgemental? Perhaps the next one. How old do you have to be to respect all human life enough to not judge another? I hope that someday our society grows up! Accepting others decisions, even if we don't understand them, shows a maturity that we all should strive for!
