That has been suggested as a possibility for a couple of days now. From the link you posted, it doesn't sound like they are confirming it... merely suggesting it as a possibility.

the stolen passport duo is reported to be Iranian young adults seeking asylum in Europe where their parents live.

I don't understand. If cell phones are still active and they didn't crash then why don't they just track the cell phones.

Only three countries use the stolen passport database US, UK and Saudi. So, there are a lot of people traveling on stolen passports every day. There are in fact people traveling on false passports every day. But if the terrorist were going to blow up a plane why not get a real passport and do it? Its not like there is a no fly list in Malaysia. If you are going to blow up the plane while you are on it, who cares if they know who you are.

They aren't active. If you are referring to the posts about that in the pprune.org thread, they said when family members call the cell phones, they are "ringing". That doesn't necessarily mean they are on, aren't under water, etc.

I'm the opposite. The more we know nothing, the more it doesn't sound like terrorism. The stolen passports paid for by the Iranian guy were human trafficking, it sounds like. I'm thinking deliberate pilot, or something really freak and mechanical.

But ringing instead of going to voicemail would mean the device was not off, right? When your phone dies it typically goes to voicemail. Even if the phone is on but underwater it should be able to be traced by the provider I would guess since they are saying the signal is showing for some passengers being logged into social media called QQ as online. If their devices are still on days later, how is this possible? Wouldn't at least one out of 200+ be able to be traced or located?

I have a feeling the plane is on land somewhere remote, not in the water.

However, nothing is making any sense. Malaysia Airlines has now rescinded their statement that 5 passengers checked in but did not board. They now say all passengers who purchased tickets and checked in were on the flight. Also, look at these released pictures of the Iranian men with the stolen passports - they look like they were altered to have the same bottom half...

Why would you think that? What type of runway do you need to land a 770? How many runways meet that requirement within the fuel range of the aircraft? Do you think the plane was refuel inflight?

Not Saudi - United Arab Emirates (UAE).

How many feet of salt water will a cell phone signal transmit through? What will happen to a battery made of lithium when it gets wet? How many cell towers are out in the middle of the ocean? Do you think the police and phone companies are covering this up?

I feel badly for not having read more - if this crash involved Americans, I know I'd be following this more closely.

That said, what I have read makes me think more and more that this isn't terrorism. I think shows like 24 and homeland make us think there's something significant about the passport thing when there probably isn't. It's likely just a coincidence. People do shady things all the time. It's possible somebody just happened to be doing something shady with a passport or two when a plane happened to crash.

There were Americans on the plane.
