Do students at universities form social groups based on family income levels?

Basically, yes. It shows up most in international travel at my kids school

Same here. My kid goes to school in the UK. And they ended up forming a social group based on travelling….most of them didnt have classes on Fridays, so they would travel basically every weekend. One weekend in London, one in Amsterdam, one in Paris, etc. THey never set out to exclude anyone, but this ended up happening by default.

But that is cheap and easy to do when you are already in Europe, you can take trains, very cheap flights, etc,

My kid - rising Ivy junior- will be in Europe all summer May-July. University had him apply for some diplomatic thing -kids from around the US- about 30 selected. The university is covering his flights/food/housing. He is staying 2 weeks afree it ends in Augus to visit “his friends” in Italy and Switzerland (no idea if they live there or vacation there)- but his friends are from all over. Some from his club sports team or classes or freshmen dorm, etc.

A lot of this just has to do with how global Ivies and top schools are…
