Former Australian diplomat. He is listed as "First Secretary" at the Australian Embassy in the State Department's Fall 2020 Diplomatic List.

It’s surprising that this story isn’t being covered in the news more. A former Australian diplomat molesting multiple young children.

Anyone can send a news tip to the Washington Post (or any other news outlet).

https://www.washingtonpost.com/anonymous-news-tips/

Another idea is to contact the Washington DC offices of Australian media outlets. They would be interested. I believe Australian Broadcasting Corp, Sky News, and Nine all have DC bureaus.

Good idea. Rupert Murdoch is Australian. Perhaps one of his many media outlets such as Wall Street Journal, Fox News, New York Post, sky news, or the like would cover it.

The major media outlets need to pick this up before tomorrow’s status hearing. I hope the judge doesn’t make the mistake of posting bond since Mahony was supposedly an esteemed diplomat and had no prior criminal record before he got arrested.

Looking at recent WaPo coverage of local child sex abuse cases, there are a couple of reporters who may be interested in this one:

Jasmine Golden jasmine.hilton@washpost.com
Dan Morse dan.morse@washpost.com
Kyle Swenson kyle.swenson@washpost.com

The Wall Street Journal reporter that would probably cover this would be:

Scott Calvert
Scott.Calvert@wsj.com

WTOP Reporter is Ciara Wells. ciara.wells@wtop.com

I think once the grand jury indicts him, it may become a bigger story.

How do you figure it’ll become a bigger story? Grand jury testimony is usually kept sealed. Especially in a case like this, they’ll seal it to protect the identities of the victims, which they should.

It’ll be a bigger story once someone from the Washington Post realizes that a former Australian diplomat is accused of sexually abusing 3 young children and who knows how many more children.

Have any of you contacted the email addresses of reporters listed or not? Because I will but I don't understand why no one else will??

What’s surprising is that the Australian Embassy and the U.S. State Department have not released a statement about this.

Libs protect their own, even pedophiles. They don’t care, not one bit.

Probably for public safety if there’s more victims out there.

It would be the federal US Attorney for DC that has jurisdiction here, no? Matthew Graves in 2023.

Matthew Graves lets tons of criminals go do more crime.

Why is someone here so sympathetic to the perps?
Our sympathies should be ONLY with ALL the victims.

Here’s the email:

Dear MVP Families:

We were recently made aware of this report involving a member of the MVP community. We have not been contacted by law enforcement and have no additional details. If you have any pertinent information, please contact the police as requested in the report.

MVP Board

Is MVP’s position still that they “have no additional details” about this case? From the case documents being available to the public, I hope that is not their stance and they keep us updated instead of hoping that we forget about this.

MVP is a parent volunteer run organization for summer swim. Different than swim teams like ASA, which is a club team.

Agree. It’s not MVP’s fault or ASA’s fault that this guy is an a$$hole.

That may be true, but if they knew of the police report, even if it didn't result in an arrest, they had a responsibility to keep him away from the kids in at least in such a highly interactive role as team photographer.

I doubt they knew of the police report- there was no arrest (unfortunately) in 2023. It’s not something Mahony advertised I am sure. The wife on the other hand definitely knew and allowed him to be around children- just terrible.

Do you think that’s a secret he could’ve kept from his wife? I think she would’ve found out about the 2023 incident.

Go take a gander at the relationship discussion forum - there are a whole host of unimaginable and hard to fathom things that people somehow keep secret from their spouses.

No offense. You can’t really believe that. At the very least, the police had to interview people back in 2023. One of the people the police interviewed was most likely Thomas Mahony’s wife. Based on witness interviews, a warrant was drafted in 2023 but unsigned by the U.S. Attorney.

Are you speculating or is this documented somewhere?
