Good lord:
“Thomas Mahony is a North Asia analyst for the Australian Government.

With accomplices of the Kelly Gang -- Australia's most notorious outlaws -- among his ancestors, Thomas has dedicated his life to public service in order to rehabilitate his family's honour.”

Sounds like he’s a Chinese asset.

His children's names are Japanese so my guess is that his wife is Japanese or of Japanese descent.

Correct. She took the kids and fled to Japan.

How does anyone know this?

Call up the world bank, and ask for yourself. She’s gone.

Her job at the World Bank had already ended. She no longer had a visa to stay. She had to leave the U.S. She was not fleeing.

Zero evidence of your story. Make up another one.

Here’s the email:

Dear MVP Families:

We were recently made aware of this report involving a member of the MVP community. We have not been contacted by law enforcement and have no additional details. If you have any pertinent information, please contact the police as requested in the report.

MVP Board

Is MVP’s position still that they “have no additional details” about this case? From the case documents being available to the public, I hope that is not their stance and they keep us updated instead of hoping that we forget about this.

MVP is a parent volunteer run organization for summer swim. Different than swim teams like ASA, which is a club team.

Agree. It’s not MVP’s fault or ASA’s fault that this guy is an a$$hole.

That may be true, but if they knew of the police report, even if it didn't result in an arrest, they had a responsibility to keep him away from the kids in at least in such a highly interactive role as team photographer.

I doubt they knew of the police report- there was no arrest (unfortunately) in 2023. It’s not something Mahony advertised I am sure. The wife on the other hand definitely knew and allowed him to be around children- just terrible.

Do you think that’s a secret he could’ve kept from his wife? I think she would’ve found out about the 2023 incident.

Go take a gander at the relationship discussion forum - there are a whole host of unimaginable and hard to fathom things that people somehow keep secret from their spouses.

No offense. You can’t really believe that. At the very least, the police had to interview people back in 2023. One of the people the police interviewed was most likely Thomas Mahony’s wife. Based on witness interviews, a warrant was drafted in 2023 but unsigned by the U.S. Attorney.

Former Australian diplomat. He is listed as "First Secretary" at the Australian Embassy in the State Department's Fall 2020 Diplomatic List.

It’s surprising that this story isn’t being covered in the news more. A former Australian diplomat molesting multiple young children.

It’s purposely getting covered up. They fear a mounting list of victims. Pedophiles never only assault a few children. He’s 42.

This is helpful. People can email from a public library to stay anonymous. WaPo should have a reporter for this. But will they cover up? It needs to exposed.

Another idea is to contact the Washington DC offices of Australian media outlets. They would be interested. I believe Australian Broadcasting Corp, Sky News, and Nine all have DC bureaus.

Good idea. Rupert Murdoch is Australian. Perhaps one of his many media outlets such as Wall Street Journal, Fox News, New York Post, sky news, or the like would cover it.

The local media got 2 things wrong initially. It said there were only two victims when there’s three victims and it spelled his last name wrong. We need the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, New York Times, or Fox News to report on this.

Pardon my ignorance, but why would the media cover this up? I understand the swim organizations wanting to do so, but the media? Nonetheless - I agree about bringing this out into the open. It should be a major story, from the moment the first victim was utterly failed, and the terrible consequences for the community.

The major media outlets need to pick this up before tomorrow’s status hearing. I hope the judge doesn’t make the mistake of posting bond since Mahony was supposedly an esteemed diplomat and had no prior criminal record before he got arrested.

Absolutely. The shocking NCRC story was front page on People and elsewhere. I know that was an HOS but Mahony's abuse most likely represents even more of a physical danger to the community's children, at least based on facts so far known. Do parents/swim community want to avoid mass attention? I sort of understand that but hope I would resist that impulse. Or is the summertime? People are away? Where is Washington Post? Is it because it's a local case and not FBI?

Looking at recent WaPo coverage of local child sex abuse cases, there are a couple of reporters who may be interested in this one:

I am not saying local media intentionally covered this up. I am saying local media did a bad job reporting on it. Local media reported a couple of inaccuracies.
