Lesson 2 is funny. Can you elaborate on how Thomas dressed like Peter Pan? |
There's a good photo further back in the thread that deserves a second look |

Wouldn't we want restraining orders to show up on background checks? Everyone who volunteers in the school building or chaperones class trips needs a clearance every two years. I would like the WaPo reporter to look into this. |
The problem seems to be that Thomas passed a background check BEFORE he was caught abusing victim 1 and then never did another background check. Background checks should be continuous. In other words, if someone passes a background check and then breaks the law, the school should be notified by the authorities. I don’t think this happens though. |
I saw that picture when this first came out and, as an outsider, have been kind of befuddled by the comments aboit how you would never tell by looking at him. He must be super charming in person because he looks like a total weirdo creeper in that mugshot like photo. |
You seemed to have noticed a lot of red flags before Thomas was arrested. Why didn’t you say something before he got caught? |
Was Epstein involved? |
I think this is confirmation bias. You knew what he was accused of before you saw his picture. I don’t know where they got the picture from but we’ve all had weird DMV or passport pictures. I’m one of those that knew him and never suspected him. I wouldn’t call him super charming, but he just didn’t stand out. I suspect that in order to get families to trust him and find kids to prey upon, he’s learned how to not be perceived as weird or creepy. To the casual acquaintance, that is enough to get by without suspicion. |
You should have used your very intelligent and perceptive observations of Mahony to alert the community. This may have prevented further sexual abuse of young children. Instead, you condemn a whole community for not knowing what you suspected. |
You should use your obviously limited quantities of both to think about what you are actually saying. |
I think the Eaton community should look into the HSA/LSAT that first recruited and were friends with Mahony and worked with Principal Eskay SY22/23 and SY23/24…after that time it’s likely parent boards just “inherited” him and assumed he was vetted properly. The school admin had to jump in and takeover after Principal Eskay was removed for his verified abusive behavior to students, staff and parents. There were probably some blind spots. |
That’s the thing, though. He was not convicted of breaking the law- and taking it back a step further, he wasn’t even charged. It sounds like the young victim’s parent filed a restraining order, which is a civil matter. I believe charges SHOULD have been brought but that’s another topic. However, to ask a slightly different question - if the restraining order required he stay off school grounds as other PPs have mentioned (presumably because the victim attends school there) then shouldn't there be a step where the school administration is notified about the order? |
If there really was a restraining order, then Thomas’s wife had to have known about Thomas. It makes what she did look like she was letting this criminal activity happen. Law enforcement should not have let her leave the country. |
Thomas' wife absolutely knew about the prior incident as did most Eaton families who lived in the same apartment building. The crew basically split in half over those who gave him the benefit of the doubt and those who didn't. The parents of the two sibling victims knew about the prior incident and had given him the benefit of the doubt. All of this can be found in articles/reports linked in this thread. HSA knew there was a restraining order against him that prohibited him from being at the school (by admin); they did NOT know what it was in reference to. There are actually multiple parents/caregivers with restraining orders or similar and most are related to divorce/custody situations or adult conflicts, so I think this is not as unique a situation as folks are painting it to be and the jump to child sexual abuse is actually not an obvious (or in most cases, fair) one. They did not have the background; I'm not sure about admin. I think it's amazing the gossip didn't spread more from the multiple Eaton families who live in the building that knew; but, again, the two victims' family was one of the few that DID know and this still happened. |
