That's really interesting. I'm sure it's in part due to misogyny and that sex is titillating. But it's also because it sort of goes to the core of the female struggle over thousands of years and so it provides a lot of meat for female actresses dealing with the female condition. At some level, we're all dealing with the comidification of our bodies and trying to find a way to assert ownership of our sexuality and selves.

NP and I think you are giving the academy more credit than they deserve. They love to glamorize sex work and do “research” and thank the sex worker community. They don’t give two sh**s. Sex and nudity sells and they exploit women in movies all the time.

+ 1 billion!!!

And the cycle just repeats as movie houses back movies they know “will sell” sex/nudity. I disagree that stories about sex workers are about THE human condition or even the female condition. They are stories about a subset of people. If they are the only stories honored, is overall disservice to women and reinforces to be in entertainment as a female, greatest odds your roles will be a stripper, sex worker, rape victim or cadaver who was a stripper, sex worker or rape victim.

Yes I am so enjoying his self depreciating wit and off beat charm

He is boring and his jokes are flat. Ricky Gervais is the best host. Ellen was great too.

What really miss is Joan Rivers red carpet where she discusses the outfits.

I knew I didn't like this, but it took me a while to figure out why.

Her boobs are RIDICULOUS. I'd want her in something that de-emphasizes them. And yes, cover or give her the option to cover her arms.

Her hair is too long -- not so much because of her age, but because it's getting straggly. Cut a few inches off. Dress in a color.

She looked much nicer at the Golden Globes.

I liked Anora. It was well done. And I disagree that it’s not about the human condition - from my vantage point it is and transcends a story purely about sex workers.

My concern is that Anora got the attention it did because the sex scenes / dancing scenes were relatively graphic for theater movies. If it weren’t so graphic and these scenes shot to be less revealing and “real”, the movie would not have gotten the kind of attention it did. And this isn’t just bad for women actors, it plays into a mode of “gimmicky” film making that isn’t great for audiences. It’s akin to movies that get attention for the special effects or “realistic” graphic violence versus the story line and acting underneath it.

In sum: Mickey Madison was great in Anora. Strong performance. Good movie. But she shouldn’t have won the Oscar.

I’m glad only because those trash Emilia Perez songs would have been torture.

That woman accepting the award for best song was so annoying I wanted to punch my TV. Get off the sage and for god’s sake don’t drag it out by warbling off key for a solid 30 seconds when the moment is over.

I am 60. Agree with much of what you said. But disagree on the arms. That is why older women look so matronly at these events -- they are worried about their arms and cover them. Her arms a great and I think she looks good. Not like she is 20 but good. If you think she needs to cover her arms, got help us and help you when you turn 60! We need to set different standards.

Because she's effectively lost all body fat, her implants look crazy. You need a bit of fat to make them sit more naturally. Right now not flattering to wear dresses with deep décolletage. Same thing with her arms. No fat results in thin crepe-y skin. She campaigned really hard. I think it was a lot of pressure and did a number on her. I'm sorry she didn't win, thought her performance was stronger than Madison's, but she still gets to have all movie promos with "Oscar-nominated Demi Moore" now. That's not nothing. And she should get meatier roles. I hope she takes some time off to rest now.

Anonymous wrote:This is the worst speech I’ve ever heard. Why are they let him babble for so long?

So bad and then he was so rude when they tried to play him off. Like why does he think he’s entitled to literally 10x more time than everyone else?! Seemed very full of himself and only wanting to talk about himself. The thank you and the comments about a better world were an afterthought after way too much self indulgent rambling.

+1 Do the interesting, relevant part of the speech first and they’ll give you more time. So much mumbling and lists of people in the beginning. He really does seem to be a jerk.

They played off that poor kid who was a first time winner or nominee and so nervous his hands were shaking life a leaf. I was wishing he had an emotional support dog with him. I think he was from the Brutalist also.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph won best supporting for The Holdovers last year for her beautiful portrayal of an ordinary woman. I loved that movie so much and it did not rely on any sex or outrageous anything.

That performance was an incredibly realistic portrayal of grief, too.
