Racist?!?! You are crazy. Teaching to the lowest common denominator helps no one. Everyone gets a worse education. This is exactly what we do too - We supplement to fill the gaps because our schools are failing these kids in the name of equity.

The Obama era changes that suggested schools could run afoul of federal civil rights laws if they disciplined students of color at higher rates than their peers were rolled back some during the Trump era. The school systems that implemented changes initially are unlikely to change back however. I can’t imagine MCPS changing discipline guidelines if it led to an increase in minority kids getting in trouble. I think they would prefer to let the entire system crumble.

The discipline disparities for minority kids still persist even with these lenient guidelines in place, so clearly the guidelines are not solving the problem they were designed to disrupt.

Racism is bad even if it is black against white right or is their a double standard. Many teachers get into the profession for the right reasons but the racism in schools makes it not a desirable profession.

The demographics of MCPS and BOE is the reason that a parallel system of education (supplementing at home) has emerged in this country. MCPS and BOE is dumbing down the education not to uplift URMs but to target the high achievers.

Racial politics by MCPS/BOE and subsequent dumbing down of education can only produce people like Mark Robinson. This is an affornt to everything an educated and enlightened leader like MLK stood for. Do better.

Parents who throw money effort time and advocacy at problems are engaged and doing what is necessary currently for their kid WHILE doing what they can to help others.

Change isn’t impossible, but it requires time, effort, advocacy, not just complaint.

We did both. Supplemented our kids and helped other kids. But the reality is that our efforts to bring opportunities to others found audience with only those children whose parents were already engaged in their education. It was shocking to us to see how uninterested the whole impacted communities was to bridge the achievement gap.

And there is not an achievement gap any longer. It is now an achievement chasm. And MCPS and BOE is only doing parlor trick with smoke and mirrors to fool people. The anger about the achievement gap is being directed against the high achieving communities as a convenient target. No one seem to realize that their kids future is being pissed away by MCPS and BOE. All standards of evaluation is being obfuscated to hide how far behind the URM and low SES students are.

Seems like a lot of the issue not everyone puts the same value on education but the county makes this false assumption.
